Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Tumbler Ridge documents reveal school shooter was ‘obsessed’ with guns

So Global news just said the BC Tumbler Ridge shooter is obsessed with firearms but then redacted many other crucial information and facts regarding to the whole event.

So besides trying to paint firearms as evil instruments of doom, they also hide many facts that create more questions than answers?

Fear mongering is standard practice in western nations, without it, how are news outlets supposed to make their money?

In all seriousness though, while I don't know the motivations behind the wording of the articles headline (other than it's supposed to be attention grabbing). I do know it's going to negatively affect the reputation of every gun owner in the country.

As for why we have redactions and the models of the guns haven't been released, I think it's because the authorities in charge of the investigation don't want to cause a panic. I'd bet good money the guns used are either conventional/traditional firearms that hunters and trappers all around the country use, or, they were homemade/3D printed guns.

The most recent CBC article mentioned that the authorities are also concerned about copycats, and I personally think that's legit. Better to keep mum for now imo.

We probably won't know anything more for now, save that articles like this are only going to otherize us further.

Hence the news title paint a narrative that guns are bad, and anyone that has them for any reasons are deemed "obsessed" with firearms.

This is the type of negative connotation is what Liberals wants the average voters to associate with when they use it as an wedge issue.

Of course we got no transparency, and the whole thing is being used for political agenda like the Nova Scotia event back in 2020.
