Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Even if all the SCC case does is stop the usage of OIC for bans/regulation it would already be a huge victory since any further ones would have to take time and attention away from the government's other legislative priorities. Imagine the attacks when they go after guns when pretty much everything else in Canada is more important in the eyes of voters.

Plus having them in the public debate for weeks or months gives time for us to show our opposition and gives them the opportunity to make some more gaffes that show how unserious this all is. What they want is the possibility of taking us all by surprise at any time with no warning, to present us with new arbitrary rules without debate or publicity. I hope this ends once and for all next year.

It certainly would set the standard for property ownership and help define the capabilities of the government. If we lose, it's an incredibly slippery slope imo.

Unfortunately most Canadians aren't aware of this information or choose to remain ignorant. I can guarantee you they'll roll out the "x party wants guns on the streets ads" when they need the wedge.

Sadly with a majority they can bum rush an amendment through without much stopping them. It would eat some house time but we've seen how the Liberals are currently using their majority (shutting down debate and denying transparency).

I do hope more people become aware of the issue though.

My guess is if they lose they'll bulk ban via amendment to c21 or an omnibus, then they'll offer grandfathering without usage to build a backdoor registry and try to divide the community (again).

The only way it ends is with a different government in power, implementing proper simplified classification codified in the law.

Correction. They got a minority. Thier lack of respect for the ballot combined with MPs of loose morals, let them manipulate thier way to a majority without the peoples mandate.
