For an individual, a gun is simply the absolute baseline tool for self defense. And comparing a literal failed state like Yemen to the legal right to self-defense in a functioning society is completely absurd.
You referred to a lot of what I said in my comment yet didnt seem to understand anything I said because everything you have said is a misinterpretation.
Point 1 was in reference to the commenter I replied to saying gun rights in the us give you the ability to protect yourself from the government. My counter argument was that if the government can kill you for owning a gun with impunity, you dont actually have a right to own a gun if that rights is abused to justify tyranny. I didnt say that they should give up their guns, just that the American "right" to own guns so they can protect themselves from the government is deeply flawed when the government uses the presence of that right as a justification for abuse of power and expansion of the governments domestic spying and violence capabilities.
Point 2 was in response to many people in the thread including the commenter I replied to with the view that because America has more gun rights, they are freer than other countries. My point was that guns dont equal freedom and having such a narrow view of freedom is flawed which is why I used Yemen as an example since they have more gun rights than America but clearly arent as free. The example counters the more guns means more free viewpoint. It wasn't saying that having the right to self defense is bad, its saying that there's a lot more to freedom than simply access to firearms. We have many freedoms we take for granted here in canada that people would give up a lot for despite all the comments saying canada is a shithole due to having shitty gun laws.
