Agreed. As a Canadian that was born and raised in this country, I have definitely seen the dwindling of our freedoms, in recent years, especially with recent legislation.
The USA definitely has its fair share of problems but I will never understand dismissing positive aspects of their legal frameworks/society to compensate for the downsides of our state of affairs.
I mean I think as gun owners we have all seen the law turned against us by our own government. If we had legislative framework/charter provisions to prevent this, it would’ve never happened in the first place.
Edit: to those who are downvoting, is anything I am saying genuinely wrong or incorrect? I don’t understand how as Canadian gun owners, on a Canadian gun sub, we have neutered ourselves into thinking our current state of affairs is remotely ok if it means we are morally superior to the US.
I've lived in 4 different countries, been a legal gun owner in 3 of them. Im an immigrant to Canada and have watched this country deteriorate first hand. I try to make the best of what I can here like all of us do with guns, but its dishonest to say that we have more freedom than USA or that our situation isnt straight fucked.
There will be no middle class soon. I had the same opinion as you 10-15 years ago. Had a job with benefits lined up in Arizona and turned it down to stay here. What a mistake that was.
That’s good and all. I honestly am so thankful for being in a place where I don’t have to worry about water quality or air quality too much where other people have to fight for these things. You are definitely right that preserving that environment allows freedom of health and other often more “intangible” freedoms for people.
That also doesn’t mean we should settle for the governments bullshit in the name of good enough and firearms rights are part of a multifaceted package.
Man. I honestly 100% understand you there. Many people I grew up with who were Canadian born and raised grew up to become those silver spoon types. And support everything that isn't the Canada that is supposed to be. I was a proud Canadian years ago, but these days it's just embarrassing.

While they have different laws that allow this, depending on who you are, its far from free.
