Hey shooters, Am here looking for some recommendations for buying a SXS double barrel 28”. Would prefer something available with minimal engravings also not super expensive like some Browning. Appreciate any pictures with names to look for.
Why do people ask for recommendations without mentioning what they want to actually do with it? Are you hunting upland birds? Breaking clays casually? Breaking clays competitively? CAS? Do you like old English doubles? Or something modern? Fine with a fixed choke? If so what choke?
It’s mostly for casual clay shooting, no hunting. More like admiring the beauty. Would prefer something old doubles. Doesn’t matter with the choke
Just didn’t mention all these cause most people doesn’t prefer to read that big of a paragraph
I have a CZ Bobwhite (southpaw as a lefty) in 20ga and it has been great so far. I used is pretty consistently for sporting clays and have put propably close to 1500rds through it with no problems.
Any chance you bought this used? I had a 20ga bobwhite southpaw i had to sell 2 years ago because I bought it not knowing it was the southpaw version and I am not a lefty!
I'll encourage philosophy of the "Harbour Freight Tool"
Basically, when you need a new tool or gun, start with the cheap but reliable option, like a Harbour Freight tool. Then see, if you use it enough to actually break or wear out the tool, then replace it with a fancier, more expensive and durable version.
Foe your case? I highly recommend going to Intersurplus and picking up an old used European Double barrel. They have old Russian Baikals. They have Swedish Husqvarnas. They have Czech BRNO guns, and they have a bunch of great German brands and even a few Spanish and Italian ones.
I personally picked up a Husqvarna for cheap, like 3-4 hundred bucks. Been working beautifully for me, I doubt I'll ever break it.
They do also have some 20 inch coach guns, if you want something different than the long barrel versions. Less brands available, but then again, a machine square and a hacksaw can make any shotgun into a coach gun
A word of caution about intersurplus, you may find yourself turning into a shotgun collector once you start using them. I ended up having to buy a new cabinet to hold my Euro shotgun collection.
Got mine in the mail last week. Went with the 30” barrel and ammo combo. Just took it out for some trap shooting and ran 150 rounds with no issue so far
