News / Politics / Activism Feds Won't Block Supreme Court Interveners

Post image

The Attorney General of Canada just informed the SCC it won't oppose the groups asking to join CCFR v. Canada as interveners, thereby allowing them to participate in the case.

This isn't a ruling on the merits, just the AGC declining to block their entry. Intervener status itself doesn't declare a side, but based on what these orgs publicly stand for, it's not hard to guess. To keep it simple, 11 of the 12 interveners are likely to side with the CCFR, against 1 which is explicitly on the government's side.

Would be nice if other AGs joined in too - i.e. MB, NB, NL, NS, and the northern territories too which have expressed opposition to the confiscation scheme.

Here is the link to the Supreme Court case in case anyone wants the official link: https://www.scc-csc.ca/cases-dossiers/search-recherche/41859/

Would have been nice. The intervention window has closed. Too late for others to join in.
