Like posting links to stores/gun stuff, Reddit admins (not us mods), can interpret that as "doxxing" which can get your account banned, and with all the Reddit AI making incorrect determinations; I don't blame OP for redacting the name of the account.

Seven years ago I was selling some 3D printed gun parts on CGN (purely aesthetic, nothing functional). I sold maybe a few hundred over the course of 6 months.
I had (completely unrelated) started a small business around that time. One day I got a voicemail on my business line asking for me by name to call someone back about having a shotgun barrel “cut down”. I called back and asked where they got my name and number and they Said “a friend of yours“ lol. I said I don’t do that type of work and “good luck on your fishing trip, I hope you find a bad guy” and hung up.
I never gave my business number to anyone on CGN so they must have ordered a rail cover or whatever and reversed the address I mailed from.
This is the jackass I tried to tell the mods about.
They werent interested. Not even enough to at least ask for the account name and ban from the sub. Literally, thier one purpose in life.
Having been warned by reddit when I reported CSAM material, I figured I didnt need another for reporting yet more criminals. Thought maybe a mod reporting this account would spur some action.
You did modmail us informing us that there was an unnamed user DM'ing other users. We told you to report it to site admins, with a link provided to make your report. Banning them from our sub DOES NOT:
Stop them from DM'ing others.
Stop them using r/canadaguns to find people to DM.
So banning them from our sub would have amounted to symbolic virtue signalling... Did you end up filing a report since you had all the details?
I did. But doesn't get around the point that you lot were made aware there was a guy trolling the sub you moderate and its members looking to facilitate illegal weapon sales.
And chose to shrug your shoulders and go "meh not our problem". Didn't even dare ask for just a name to humor the notion of caring.
Had I not reported it, theres no guarantee anybody would have and the account would still be live. Especially with how Reddit actively discourages any kind of basic user report via ignoring or handing warnings. Thought one from a moderator might stand a better chance if actually being looked at.
You can hide behind don't wanna "virtue signal" all you want but that doesnt deny the fact you've shown, as mods, you are okay with this stuff happening on your sub.
We literally have NO CONTROL over private DMs. If they had commented publicly, our filters would have caught it, and we would have banned them on the spot, but as mentioned, that would still not have any effect to prevent them scouting our sub and continuing DM'ing everyone while banned from the sub.
The correct approach was to literally have you and everyone else, who received the DM, report the conversation (which goes to Reddit Admins) and let Reddit Admins step in, and they did just that... We don't have time to beat around the bush. We provided the direct solution, you didn't like us not putting on an act that would have been absolutely a waste of time, and that's fine to feel however you like about that, but the truth of the matter was this was quite literally out of jurisdiction because this was done through DMs, so only Reddit admins could take meaningful action on the account.
He is not trolling the sub we moderate because he is not participating in it. Participating means posting and commenting, neither of which we have seen happen. DM's are between two reddit accounts completely outside of r/canadaguns and our ability to moderate.
We're not saying "we don't care" but rather "we can't action this". We told you exactly what you needed to do as a responsible member of the community to report this behavior through the proper channels. Do you recognize that because we don't have access to direct messages, even if you provided a name, we have no way to tell whether you are telling the truth or not, or if any of these are edited. Only site admins can do this.
We have clearly shown we care about this behavior by providing you the proper channels to report it.

I got a message from somebody a few months ago offering to pay triple the value for a gun, any gun, under the table.
I reported it to a mod here, and the profile disappeared shortly thereafter.
The next best thing to owning a handgun is having a buddy who has several. Your buddy could lend you his handgun by setting up a long term ATT so it is recognized as being safely stored and in the possession of you. You might even convince your buddy to sell you the gun, although it could never be officially registered in your name.
back when 3D printing your own guns was still legal i was posting about it semi frequently and got one or two of these sorts of messages.
when the law changed though? dude i got SWARMED on discord and reddit from "totally not feds/jurnos" asking about tips for printing glock frames, where to buy slides and barrels, ect.
