Super Weird DM Chat Request Message.

I got a chat request message today. It said “ I will pay 3-4x retail for a working firearm. “ 8 month old account, and the only activity I can see is a post in r/montreal, from yesterday, asking if anybody wants to go to a gun range with them. I’m a member of r/Montreal, and have posted replies to people there asking about gun ranges. So…. Is this some moron who thinks that licensed gun owners sell guns illegally, or some Fed bait?

$10 it’s the same reporter that drilled out the rivet in a magazine to make it 30 rounds from awhile back

I forgot about that guy. But so did the police, who didn’t arrest and charge him for modifying and possessing a prohibited magazine.

Meh, reporters should be allowed to break the laws in some ways. That's a basic tenet of freedom of press.

Or maybe, just maybe, if a reporter can break the law without anyone getting hurt.... it shouldn't be a fucking law to begin with.

What’s this about?

73

u/kbull70 Oct 31 '25

Some reporter in Quebec awhile ago tried making a point of how easy it is to make a 5/30 round mag a full 30 rounder (a prohibited device) by removing the rivet that made it a 5 round capacity mag. As far as I’m aware he’s still not been charged with anything since creating a prohibited device and possessing it.

I kind of find it funny that so many us of have lots and lots of pinned mags, because of stupid laws say that rifle can hold 5 rounds. But we just said alrighty whatever make you happy and we follow it to hold our end of bargain being responsible firearm owner.

Then you have some idiots reporter says look how easy it is to modified a mag, thus breaking the law. Then rest of us be like, yeah, it's that easy, but we don't do that here bud because that's part of responsible part.

While he is at it, why not just leave guns around and not locked up and leave them loaded eh? Look, it's so easy to leave the guns unattended!

Might as well tell other to drive a car without seatbelt on or text while driving because that's a lot of hassle too!

We gave a chimp a machine gun and what happened next was insane ( look how easy it is to give a chimp a machine gun though

They decided the intent wasn’t there to do a crime but to educate which of far more leeway than anyone else gets for anything gun related.

29

u/skunkdad2011 Oct 31 '25

Intent isn’t written into the Firearms Act for possession. So, they just let him get away with the crime.

u/4r4nd0mninj4 Oct 31 '25

Exactly. I had a mag that I'd need to remove the pin in order to disassemble and clean to get it properly working, and the CFOs office can't tell me if that's legality possible (to remove and reinstall the pin for cleaning), and recommends taking it to a gunsmith.😔

6

u/shadow6654 BC Nov 01 '25

I asked this before and even if I was to remove the pin, disassemble, repin, clean, remove the pin, reassemble and repin, it’s still illegal

5

u/4r4nd0mninj4 Nov 01 '25

It's BS that we're not legally allowed to maintain our own equipment!

6

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

Yep. But it helped the agenda of their overlord at the time so it’s ok.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

Yeah if intentions mattered then I could unpin all my magazines for home defense

3

u/kbull70 Nov 01 '25

Wonder if I’d be able to get away with making machine gun then, for educational purposes ofc lol

5

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

It’s my emotional support machine gun and it’s illegal for you to take it

Federal agent for sure. Or an idiot. Either way, report.

For sure, every fed is an idiot. Not every idiot is a fed.

5

u/ScorpionRox Nov 01 '25

One is paid but BEING an idiot, one is paid by acting an idiot. (I.e. they get some weird kind of fulfillment by just acting without thinking)

23

u/gnu_gai Oct 31 '25

Either way I would just report it and carry on

40

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '25

Feds, poly, or an idiot. Take your pick.

16

u/goodfleance Nov 01 '25

Oops, minor typo there! You typed "idiot" 3 times in a row

17

u/PT6A-27 Oct 31 '25

If it’s not one, it’s the other.

25

u/37BJJ Oct 31 '25

If they have no PAL I'd be concerned for their own safety tbh.

u/IGnuGnat Oct 31 '25

Report it.

Usually, gun enthusiasts are after a specific gun at any given time and never just ask “hey I want a working firearm and I’ll pay you more than what they sell for at the store”.

There are gun stores in Montreal that they could go to.

I don’t think it’s fed bait, but it goes without saying that whoever wants it is definitely not legally allowed to own them. The whole “looking for someone to go to a gun range with” thing is a likely set-up for getting mugged for your firearm. Anyone who agrees is likely going to be asked to “meet up somewhere first”.

Tell them to fuck off and that they sell Nerf guns at Walmart.

Report it to who? My motorcycle got stolen out of my driveway a couple of years ago and they victim blamed me for not having it chained up to something. I’m not talking to the cops. Im reporting it here. The Mods have my screenshots.

3

u/FunkyFrunkle Oct 31 '25

True enough. If it happened on Reddit, the most you can do is report the account but that’s about it.

Otherwise just ignore it and block them.

I’m sorry about your motorcycle.

2

u/skunkdad2011 Oct 31 '25

Thank you for the motorcycle condolences. It was a 1969 Honda, that I had spent 3 years restoring at my shop. It got stolen the first night after I rode it to my house.

1

u/skunkdad2011 Oct 31 '25

Im not blocking them. That makes it disappear.

7

u/Accomplished-Beat779 Oct 31 '25

Fed or moron yes

4

u/Lumindan Oct 31 '25

100 percent a fed or a criminal. Report and block.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

These messages are apparently a regular occurrence on CGN and Gun Post in response to for sale ads.

Just delete, ignore and move on to legitimate PAL holding buyers.

Don't even respond to garbage like that.

2

u/skunkdad2011 Nov 01 '25

I wasn’t selling anything.

6

u/567432Gains Oct 31 '25

I would report that to the authorities immediately. It may be a fed trolling for takers, but if it’s not then this person needs to be looked into.

If they cannot acquire a firearms license, or they are using it for something that they don’t want traced back to them, then they are someone who definitely should not have a firearm.

A fool and his money are soon parted

5

u/therowdyirishman Oct 31 '25

Try to get some info from them, like a cell # or something then report him to the RCMP and local police. Hopefully they take this kind of thing seriously but I honestly don't know as I've never had an opportunity to report something like this.

I also couldn't find the post in r/montreal which makes me think they've likely already covered their trail, unfortunately.

2

u/skunkdad2011 Oct 31 '25

I have a screen shot of their r/montreal post.

2

u/printliftrun Nov 01 '25

Time to unload before the buyback 🤑

2

u/hafetysazard Nov 01 '25

Report it to the RCMP.

3

u/MasterScore8739 Oct 31 '25

Man, I wish I’d get these types of messages.

I’ve always wanted to get one, call up the RCMP, and see if we could turn it into a sting. I would absolutely talk it up and make it sound like I was a badass undercover government agent working a top secrete case to friends. 😆

2

u/skunkdad2011 Oct 31 '25

I’d rather not have got that message. The reason I’m posting the story here, is to see if anyone else had this happen.

2

u/MasterScore8739 Oct 31 '25

That’s totally fair. It’s always a little uneasy when someone ‘targets’ you for some level of shenanigans, specially when you want nothing to do with it.

3

u/skunkdad2011 Oct 31 '25

I need to learn how to play TOOL Intolerance on guitar for a dad band rehearsal next week. I don’t want any weird stuff happening, aside from TOOL.

2

u/Status_Ticket5044 Nov 02 '25

Learning a Tool song... Looks like your weekend is tied up. Gigged Sober last night. Really awkward with the game on and all....

1

u/julienjj Nov 01 '25

Ahah joke on them. I only buy and never sell 😆

Hi Ian. What makes you so sure? Is it legal for cops to try to get people to commit crimes? I can send you my screen shot if you like. The dm request disappeared when I checked this morning. Their account is disappeared.

OP should offer to sell him an antique firearm and see if he bites.
