News / Politics / Activism He Hunted With a Handgun, Then Restricted Yours (4K)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4268wz1fUEY

Just saw this video that came up on my YouTube feed. Prior to 1969 I guess it was legal to hunt with a handgun/revolver. In less than 60 years so much has changed in regards to bs firearms restrictions smh.

Anyways shout out to "The Way to Native Chronicles". He makes a lot of good Canadian gun/hunting content.

Canada used to have concealed carry too. They ban things based on how it makes them feel.

59

u/Ratfor Jul 24 '26

Canada actually still has carry for private individuals.

Just not for You, or Me.

But if you're a judge, or a person of significant importance, you can get one. The Chief Firearms officers just have a collective agreement to never issue them to normal individuals.

7

u/hunterofsteelhead Jul 24 '26

I heard theres 1 citizen that has concealed carry

4

u/Lumindan Jul 24 '26

I think there was an AMA a while back here with a CFO and it was single digits

3

u/hunterofsteelhead Jul 24 '26

I think there was 2 but one doesnt have it anymore for some reason, maybe they passed away

I believe you actually have to get a letter from your local chief stating in writing that they are unable to protect you, and that would likely be very hard to obtain as well.

Granted, all of us here know the police dont really protect people (in theory they do), but as the saying goes "when seconds count, police are only minutes away!". For any average citizen, if a crazy gangbangers kicks in your door at 3am with intent to rob or violate your family, the police will only get there after the crime has occurred.

This is one of the biggest issues I have with our lack of castle laws, it expects you to rely on the criminal not having bad intention essentially, to wait and find out "is this guy here to kidnap my wife, or is he just here to steal my TV? Let's wait and find out!"

Im betting in 99.9% of violent crimes, police arrive after the harm has already been done, and rarely even get there fast enough to interrupt the crime in progress. Plus, if you wake up to someone kicking in your door, do you even have time to fumble for your phone and call the police before they're face to face with you? In a lot of cases, I think no. The number of Canadians being attacked or murdered in their own homes in the last few years is seriously fucked.

u/22GageEnthusiast Jul 24 '26

Bro what do you mean? If someone is stabbing you just pick up the phone and call 911. Also, they have a deal right now....30 minute response time or less and you get a free Tim Hortons gift card!

3

u/__phil1001__ Jul 24 '26

If someone is kicking in my door or suddenly appears in my bedroom at night, there is 100% certainty they do not have good intentions

13

u/thisghy Jul 24 '26

The police not being enough to protect you part should be a given. Police don't protect you, they collate and parse evidence after the fact.

12

u/22GageEnthusiast Jul 24 '26

Oh no I need daddy government to tell me when it's ok to carry a gun legally. Meanwhile, every repeat offender/drug dealer in this country consistently carries illegally obtained guns without a care in the world and they almost never do jail time.

Close. Not your life, someone else's. Someone with status.

13

u/cannuckwoodchuck13 Jul 24 '26

My grandpa would always tell me stories about moose hunting in northern ontario and they would wear a handgun in a shoulder holster the whole time.  He said they would walk into a restaurant or store while they were carrying and no one would batt an eye.

11

u/hunterofsteelhead Jul 24 '26

Thats beautiful. When I think about carrying thats what I imagine. My father in law tells me stories of when he was in school hed bring his 22 rifle on the bus and they had a class where they shot targets.

10

u/3rdgen2 Jul 24 '26

My old high school had a shooting range in it back in the day in the one hallway. They used to teach gun safety and did 22 shooting and archery in there

7

u/BulltacTV Jul 24 '26

No they dont. Politicians are moral wind socks, they dont feel anything about guns. They ban based on public sentiment within critical voting districts and most likely reccomendations from CSIS that their mass immigration based plan to drive down median wages will be much safer to pull off if they round up all the guns. Source: SO works in politics, its way worse than you think.

To be VERY CLEAR, I am not advocating ANY type of violence, I am just saying that its a consideration for domestic security at the federal level.

-43

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

They banned concealed carry to lower gun crime. Crime is lower. You dont have to like it but it worked.

40

u/motorcyclemech Jul 24 '26

Violent gun crime increased from 2020 to 2025. Increased after the firearms ban and the handgun ban. Increased.

-16

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Yea due to the suspension of social progams due to covid and economic strife. Im not saying that the OICs and handgun transfer freeze did shit to lower gun crime. Getting rid of concealed carry did.

7

u/Mysterious_Map2965 Jul 24 '26

Share the stats and your sources that show getting rid of concealed carry contributed to lower gun crime.

3

u/Seven65 rooty tooty point and shooty Jul 27 '26

Do you have any proof of that, at all? Crime in general goes down over time, unless the government screws up.

Cell phones save more lives than anything. Everyone has a camera, everyone can call emergency services. You can have more crime, but less people still die.

If you're going show a correlation after a certain year, make sure to include things like the prevalence of cell phones into your calculations.

27

u/Ov3rReadKn1ght0wl Jul 24 '26

Homicide numbers still climbed up and up though.

-16

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Crimes been on a general downward trend for decades.

5

u/Ov3rReadKn1ght0wl Jul 24 '26

That isn't exclusive to the fact that total homicides have still climbed lol. You can have crime severity go down or total crime go down but still have increases in specific areas while other's decrease.

It's your delusion versus the word of StatsCan lol. Hey, but do go off your eminence.

-2

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Are you saying that ease of access to firearms isnt a factor in homicide rates?

7

u/Ov3rReadKn1ght0wl Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

Nope. Try again. Or continue trying to misrepresent the data. Your choice.

Edit: LOL. I get a down vote because his Royal Incapable of Reading Data Highness is out of his depth.

-4

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Bud if you want the hard truth of the matter we need stronger social saftey nets to lift up our lower classes and remove motivations for crime. But since we dont do that we restrict ease of access to firearms, which is a factor and lowers crime rates.

Saying that access to firearms isnt a factor is just foolish.

7

u/Ov3rReadKn1ght0wl Jul 24 '26

Keep digging the hole. It's your eminent word versus StatsCan's homicide data that goes back until 1961.

But please, do keep digging the hole. The laughs I get from people with moronic takes is my form of social safety net. Laughter is great medicine.

Until 2020(2015 in EU), violent crime in the West as a whole was on a downward trend. This had zero impact whatsoever, the same with any and all gun control efforts.

-3

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Yea that was due to the suspension of social programs due to covid. Crime and violent crime are back on the downward trend.

Gun control affects work to an extent. Literally every country and the US are proof of this.

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Agreed. They are proof that strong gun licensing, and a strong social saftey work really well to limit crime.

17

u/Norwest_Shooter on Jul 24 '26

Correlation does not equal causation

-10

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Well lets compare Canada and the US.

They let people conceal carry, they let people own guns unlicensed. They have the worst crime rates in the developed world. We have licensing and no concealed carry and we have much less crime.

Or do you have a different theory?

6

u/DJ_Die Jul 24 '26

Compare Canada to the Czech Republic or Poland. Both of the latter allow concealed carry and they are far safer than Canada.

-1

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Heavily socialized ex soviet countries. With stronger social saftey nets and more requirments to CC. Including a physical and mental health component.

The issue is no politicans here want to stand up for both guns and an increased social saftey net. Those two ideals are opposed in North America.

7

u/Norwest_Shooter on Jul 24 '26

Yes, that crime is a result of socioeconomic factors and not because of the tools being used.

-2

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

To a point I agree.

But ease of access to weapons is absolutley a factor.

0

u/Norwest_Shooter on Jul 24 '26

Keyword there is weapons. It’s a violence problem not a gun problem specifically. But Canada is not the US and you can be sure as hell that if concealed carry was a thing here it would not be easy to get a license for.

5

u/hunterofsteelhead Jul 24 '26

Canada is closer in population to a state than the United States in entirety

1

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Depends on the state. And per capita takes population sizes mostly out of the question.

3

u/motorcyclemech Jul 24 '26

Yes! I definitely do have a different "theory". There is no comparison to us and the US when it comes to firearms. Canada has always been more strict and much more vetting goes into its licensing program. To the point you can't even compare the 2!

0

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Exactly. You cant even compare the two. Their crime rates are only comprable to developing nations.

7

u/22GageEnthusiast Jul 24 '26

There's literally more shootings now in Canada than there every were in the 1960s. Wtf are you talking about?

0

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Per capita? Cause population increases mean straight up number increases.

4

u/22GageEnthusiast Jul 24 '26

Are you seriously suggesting that there was more shootings per capita in the 1960s compared to the amount of shootings today?

-1

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

I think crime rates in general are lower than they were back then so why not shootings?

3

u/22GageEnthusiast Jul 24 '26

Again, even if you factor in "per capita" are you seriously suggesting that crime rates are lower in Canada today than they were in the 1960s? This is objectively not true.

2

u/hunterofsteelhead Jul 24 '26

I didnt know handgun crime was so prevalent in canada all those decades ago

Their voters are so tied to being anti-gun (even if they have 0 knowledge of firearms) that they use it as a tool to rile up their support.

0

u/The_King_of_Canada mb Jul 24 '26

Yea but both also require a medical and psycological assessment to obtain the license.

Frankly both countries are proof that social services and a strong social safety net are the best ways to lower crime rates. The issue in North America is that one side of the political spectrum wants less gun restrictions and less social safety nets while the other side wants more gun restrictions and more saftey nets.

20

u/Anla-Shok-Na Jul 24 '26

Gun control as we know it is, and has always been, a diversionary tactic the Liberal party uses to distract from it's scandals. Every major change in firearms legislation can be lined up with something they needed covered up.

9

u/mwmwmwmwmmdw Jul 24 '26

there hasent been a liberal government since ww2 that hasent advanced gun control more and more. even the conservatives got in on it a little under mulroney but then got BTFO partially over it in the next election

91

u/boozefiend3000 Jul 24 '26

The liberal party sure has changed this country and not for the better. Just a party of absolute cancer

19

u/conanap Jul 24 '26

IMHO none of the parties have done good by Canada. Every politician is a selfish pos and only have their own interests at heart.

3

u/PoorMansPanache Jul 25 '26

This. Absolutely this. I can't stand this idiotic party line shit. THE LIBRULS! Who the fuck thinks these bought and paid for CONs are doing what's best for Canada!? Wake the fuck up and vote for individuals who represent your concept of government. Voting party line is for rubes!

33

u/Thereal_Stormm006 Jul 24 '26

The Liberal Party IS the cancer

14

u/Anla-Shok-Na Jul 24 '26

The Liberal Party itself is a corrupt organization that exists solely to extract wealth from the taxpayers to enrich it's members and their backers.

-7

u/cutslikeakris Jul 24 '26

And Conservatives aren’t? PP has done effectively nothing his whole career except live off our dime, he hasn’t put a single proposed piece of legislation in! His career has been to improve his own life at our expense. Both of the major parties do the exact same bullshit for their supporters.

Let’s be honest on this site at least.

18

u/Anla-Shok-Na Jul 24 '26

What kind of drugs are you on? Conservatives haven't been in power since Harper and while he had his faults, he didn't print money and embezzle tax payer dollars so he can funnel it into his backers and his pockets.

-6

u/cutslikeakris Jul 24 '26

And what about the points I made about PP, are you going to ignore them? In my 50 years I’ve voted in every election but one provincial election, and across the political spectrum bit if you think you are going to ignore say, the stifling of scientific reports against the supporters of Conservatives during the Harper era as if it’s nothing, or Harper’s own conflicts of interest then I have no faith in you having a nuanced conversation about the corruption on both sides.

Now how has PP done anything to earn his paycheque and housing for the past 22 years please?

5

u/canadianmohawk1 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

Seriously you're going on about Harper?

Pierre has achieved the top spot in his career and has served as the finance minister to Harper, whom, dispite the gibberish you wrote, was leagues above Trudeau and Carney. It's not even close how much better Canada was under him. Only stupid people think that getting to the top of their career is somehow a bad thing. Especially stupid if you stand there and cheer for Trust Fund Baby's and the King of Conflict of Interest, Maga Mark the Banker. Geezus Christ you are out to lunch.

0

u/cutslikeakris Jul 24 '26

So you’ll admit Pierre has done nothing his whole career because you can’t name a single bill he’s authored on 22 years as a politician?

5

u/canadianmohawk1 Jul 24 '26

Who says we need more rules at all? I dont find the number of bills authored impressive if I don't agree with the bills being authored. I instead care more about what he is voting for on any bills presented, whether his own or someone else's.

He has spent most of his career in opposition where is not common to be authoring bills since well, your on the side of minority most of the time. But if you want stats, here they are. He isn't some super star, but he isn't 'doing nothing ' either. Rather, he's being like most us, or in other words, a normal guy trying to be the best at his career:

https://www.reddit.com/r/canadian/s/926hdS8ny0

4

u/WeightedDips95 Jul 24 '26

Even if that was somehow a big deal like you’re making it out to be, despite the fact half of that time has been as opposition, literally a conservative doing nothing is infinitely better than everything the LPC has done. What we absolutely unironically need is for the government to shrink and stop trying to control absolutely everything. We’ve seen how that’s been working out.

9

u/22GageEnthusiast Jul 24 '26

When the Conservatives were in power where PP was the housing minister.....things seemed to be going much better in Canada and they weren't coming after our guns. This is an objective fact.

-3

u/cutslikeakris Jul 24 '26

What did PP do, actually do as housing minister? Absolutely nothing. He introduced no bills, he changed nothing, and your “seemed to be going better” relies on no fact but feelings about memories you have from the era.

If you are giving PP accolades, let’s list what he actually did…..

……

…….

That’s about all he did other than collect a paycheque off of yours and my dollars.

9

u/22GageEnthusiast Jul 24 '26

I remember the average house price was significantly lower than it is now. I remember monthly rents were significantly lower than they are now. I remember crime levels were significantly lower than they are now. I remember immigration numbers were significantly lower than they are now. I remember youth unemployment was lower than it is now. I remember anti-gun restrictions and gun bans were far less prevalent than they are now.

I can keep going but it's sad how much Canada's declined in pretty much every way in the past 11 years. Oh well......ELBOWS UP!!!!111

6

u/Significant_Step_517 Jul 24 '26

Man I look back on the Harper years so fondly, I didn’t realize at the time, but they were so much better for me than the dogshit we’ve had for the last decade. I know that just because I enjoyed them doesn’t mean everybody did though and I understand that. But fuck, like Trudeau sent us way backward in so many ways.

6

u/22GageEnthusiast Jul 24 '26

Brother I voted for JT in 2015 and I've been regretting it ever since.

1

u/cutslikeakris Jul 24 '26

You can keep going but you cannot to a single actual thing PP has done can you.

You wrote a lot of worlds to ignore admitting I’m right.

That that’s fanaticism, not logical thought.

What actual actions did PP do as housing minister or as anything else in his government career. If he did ANYTHING it’s on record!

Why blindly follow somebody who has no accomplishments over “it feels like” as opposed to actual differences made.

And how many of the things you are mentioning are a worldwide phenomenon right now.

4

u/22GageEnthusiast Jul 24 '26

1

u/cutslikeakris Jul 24 '26

Have you ever heard me say that?

Oh! Another distraction from the words I use that you have no answer for!

Don’t blindly follow emotional politicians. He’s done nothing and he will do nothing- note reverting the gun control was nowhere on his platform officially? Wonder why that is…..

Couldn’t be because he doesn’t do anything and won’t……

Or show me where I’m wrong using fact and not emotions that you probably bitch at others for…..

Follow the proof! Or show me one single bit of data other than the emotional outcry you’ve given here.

Pierre Poilievre was not formally titled "Minister of Housing" but served briefly as Minister of Employment and Social Development (with housing responsibilities) from February 9, 2015, to November 4, 2015, under Prime Minister Stephen Harper. This was a late cabinet shuffle near the end of Harper's government (which lost the October 2015 election). There was no dedicated standalone housing minister at the time; housing-related files (including aspects of social development and CMHC oversight) fell under his broader portfolio. His time in the role was only about nine months.

0

u/cutslikeakris Jul 24 '26

And in 9 months did he table anything or do anything of note? Or did he ride a paycheque?

3

u/Primary_Judge Jul 24 '26

Houses were being built, there was not much need for socialist housing. Federal money was given to provinces to build low income housing. Where did that money go? Follow the money.

1

u/cutslikeakris Jul 24 '26

If a Liberal cabinet member did nothing for 9 months you would have a shit fit over it. But instead you make excuses for it. So the world was so good then that in 9 months PP had nothing to do….. interesting.

Sure. It's definitely just the liberals. Good call there champ, real smart thinking.

2

u/Anla-Shok-Na Jul 25 '26

All the other parties have issues, special interests, and ideological orientations that drive them.

The LPC is the only party that has no ideology other than getting in power and staying in power so that it can drain the public purse to enrich it's investors and it's membership. It's not right wing, it's not left wing, it's not centrist, it's "say whatever is popular and will get us elected".

Trudeau Sr. was PM in 1969 when handguns became classified as "restricted weapons," so yes, it absolutely would be hypocritical of him to have had no problem hunting with a handgun himself, only to turn around and ban others from doing so moving forward.

-5

Maybe but i don't disagree they should be restricted we had pretty okay legislature before Polytechnic

25

That Trudeau father was very much less of a Liberal even if he was then the son, although maybe both are a result of their time?

7

u/ThrowRA_That_Owl_25 Jul 24 '26

Well, sr was bad, jr was worse. Thats the only way to look at it, really.

4

u/thisghy Jul 24 '26

He brought us away from the british common law system with the charter of rights and freedoms. This meant a regression from 'you automatically have this right if it doesn't intrude on that other person's rights' to: 'here is the short list of rights and freedoms that your government happens to currently agree that you can have, but can and will further restrict at the stroke of a pen'.

We lost a lot of freedom with Trudeau 1, not just with handguns becoming restricted. He was far from conservative.

1

u/22GageEnthusiast Jul 24 '26

He also invented the "Canada is Multicultural" propaganda in 1970s.

0

u/thisghy Jul 24 '26

Yeah, that's another one for sure. I remember growing up hearing the whole 'cultural mosaic' dogshit in school growing up. Canada was not really multicultural, it was primarily white European settlers, Anglo and Christian. People coming in don't add to the culture, they add water to it and make it less rich like if you water'd down wine.

5

u/i-Hermit Jul 24 '26

I might be wrong here.. but it seems implausible that Justin Trudeau was hunting seals with a handgun in 1969. And, given that he is not the same man as his father, it doesn't really qualify as hypocrisy.

0

This is 1969 lol I’m not for gun control to a crazy extend but reaching to 1969 to try and justify hypocrisy is fucking laughable. You know what else was legal in 1969?
Driving with unlimited alcohol content in your blood. That was the year of the omnibus bill
Possession of caffeine in clear sodas also illegal

If you’re going to make an argument make it a good one at the minimum
