Anybody know what gun his mag would used in? Looks a lot bigger than 5.56-.223 to me.

They are Sig 716 and they were acquired not without some controversy. Truly hypocritical. Meanwhile the Canadian Rangers are doing just fine against polar bears with Tikka T3x Arctics.

That's because there's not many firearms that can withstand arctic conditions. They were using Lee-Enfields for the longest time and were pretty much forced to adopt a new rifle because the Lee-Enfields they had were on their last legs and spare parts were getting scarce.

Not to say that the C19 isn't suffering from it's own set of issues either, probably will be rectified but Tikka bolt lugs are pretty thin imho and a possible weak point in the future once these rifles start seeing some wear & tear.

this guys still use M1917 Enfields loaded with .30-06 SLAP for polar bear defence. Really underscores how brutal extreme cold is on mechanical equipment.

Might be worth revisiting the OG AR-10 like what the Dutch KLM airline packed in the arctic survival kits for the transpolar routes they were taking back in the mid-50's. Hell since the entire region is warming up, something like the SCAR-20S might do just fine in the future.

Knight's SR-25 AR-10s with graphene dry lube and expanding copper solid rounds is what I'd go with. Test the stocks for the -40°C cold to select one that won't crack over time.

if graphene is anything like graphite, it'll be a bad idea for aluminum receivers since the locking lug track in the receiver can be eroded and at best make the rifle non-functional, ditto for lithium grease. This was already played around with lots by the U.S. with M16's & M4's when the GWOT kicked off because oil likes to hold onto stuff like sand & dust, but they ended up settling with using no lube at all and making-due with the inherent lubricity of chromium on the bolt carrier.

Probably gonna have to settle with a G96+kerosene mix if a steel upper receiver is out of the question, since I'm not sure if a steel cam-track plate similar to a FN SCAR or a Geissele GFR upper will hold up to such rigor or the non-steel section being affected by any dry lube spreading around inside.

Interesting. Graphene is more slippery than graphite. The carbon is in bunches instead of sheets. No lube it is then.
