Misc Question about 308 prices

I used to shoot quite a lot just around the beginning of the dark times. Around then and before in the 2010s i remember 308 being a cheap full rifle size cartridge. As I came back into the hobby the start of this year I noticed 308 has gone way up in price and especially after seeing a box of 30-06 going for the same rate in cabelas yesterday I’m just left wondering what’s happened? I’ve heard the global wars are to be responsible but then why hasn’t .223, 7.62x54 or 39 seen the same increases?

It has. Quality match ammo and even hunting ammo for .223 has definitely gone up. War or not, its supply and demand and unfortunately prices seldom ever go down. Pair that with our ever degrading Canadian dollar paired with the majority of our ammo having to come out of the US, if not Europe it's just part of the norm.

Now, surplus on the other hand has stayed somewhat stable but thats largely due to a good chunk of the guns we use that shoot them are no long allowed to be used and as such, less demand. That being said i really miss Barnaul 7.62x39

Not sure where you’re at but we still have Barnaul in Ontario. 12.99 - 14.99 a box

yup, also still waiting on u/ShortAngryViking to respond because same. The only Barnaul that i still see anywhere in 7.62x39 are the blanks which are effectively useless on the range lol.

If he does respond he won't have Barnaul available for very long.

Very true. That being said, if we give them the benefit of the doubt it's entirely possibly its at some stores local to him that don't have a website or are choosing not to post ammo.

I remember peak covid ammo shortage a good chunk of retailers with webstores weren't posting ammo online anymore because literal other stores were buying up everything and then flipping them at their own stores at higher prices.
