Misc Question about 308 prices
I used to shoot quite a lot just around the beginning of the dark times. Around then and before in the 2010s i remember 308 being a cheap full rifle size cartridge. As I came back into the hobby the start of this year I noticed 308 has gone way up in price and especially after seeing a box of 30-06 going for the same rate in cabelas yesterday I’m just left wondering what’s happened? I’ve heard the global wars are to be responsible but then why hasn’t .223, 7.62x54 or 39 seen the same increases?

There has been crazy inflation across all firearms and accessories, especially since covid and the first rounds of bans.
You can still find bulk 308 but its not like it used to be. In 2019 when I started shooting, you could find winchester and remington hunting ammo for $22-25 a box, now its around $40 locally. Bulk fmj could be found for $.75 a round, now pmc is about $1.35 locally as long as you buy the 500 pack for $685.
Im sure there are better deals out there but guns and ammo ar just crazy in general. People out there paying nearly 2k for lever actions and $1500 for standard tikka bolt actions blows my mind, but as long as people keep paying the asking price it will go up every year.

I can’t remember and it’s kind of an off hand question but I was just curious what the going rate was for an SVT before they got banned. I’m asking you because you’re not giving ignorant attitude over a simple question

All good. As most surplus, they varied by condition. I dont remember exactly, but Im pretty sure i saw most svt40s between $1100 and $1500.
The price seems low by today's standards for a semi-auto centerfire, but before the first wave of bans they were in competition with unrestricted ar10s, $800 norinco M1a's, $300-400 sks', and like 200 different modular 5.56 rifles.

Cabelas is expensive. Their sales price is usually our starting point. That being said, yes, as with everything, the price since 2010 has gone up. US made ammo brands have been hit especially hard by this due to Trumps Tarriffs, as the americans do not produce all the powders/raw materials themselves. (Sako and Norma ammo is coming to be inline with federal boxes now for this reason) That being said, yes Cabela's is expensive.

That's why I started buying ammunition exclusively from you guys. Its wild Cabela's has a box of the same ammunition for 30$ more.

.223 and 5.56 South Korean is $0.58/rnd + tax if applicable in 1000 lots.
Get stacking it before the Carmels and Makasis land.

What rock have you been living under? And 223 and 7.62x39 have gone up insane amounts. Im buying as much as i can while its all under a dollar per round

What happened?
COVID, gun bans, inflation, trade wars, shooting wars.
Everything else has gone up in price, what are you surprised about?

It has. Quality match ammo and even hunting ammo for .223 has definitely gone up. War or not, its supply and demand and unfortunately prices seldom ever go down. Pair that with our ever degrading Canadian dollar paired with the majority of our ammo having to come out of the US, if not Europe it's just part of the norm.
Now, surplus on the other hand has stayed somewhat stable but thats largely due to a good chunk of the guns we use that shoot them are no long allowed to be used and as such, less demand. That being said i really miss Barnaul 7.62x39
