First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

I think it's a mixture of people not understanding basic economics (people saying we can divest from the US, which is nutty btw), people who treat politics like team sports and a pinch of "we are not American" smugness and there we are.

Combine that with the team sports mentality and everything is a personal attack.

People will turn a blind eye to the government passing draconian spy bills and running pointless gun grabs because they're "winning".

It'd gonna be a hot minute until people wake up and realize how bad they've let things slide. The one upside is that historically this always happens, just when is the concern.

I think we passed the point of no return. I don’t think Canada can be saved at this point. Ironically enough for all the new “Canadian nationalist”, they’ve all but ensured the collapse of Canada.

I do think the pendulum will swing back. When though? That's thats a hard answer.

Quality of life needs to dip even further tbh, historically Canadians live to vote out governments and blame their issues on previous establishments.

That or to put this in Reddit complaint terms: 1/3 of the electorate will need to naturally reach their end of life so the people who are alive and well, working, and who are actually suffering as most don't have assets or own homes, can vote in government that will work towards fixing 10+ years of Liberal malfeasance since most people under 50, are more concerned with the cost of living than some walking talking idiot down south...

This would be great in a static environment with a growing domestic population. Unfortunately the same powers that rely on blue hairs for votes are importing replacements, and the levels of import remain extremely elevated.

The only thing being built at "unimaginable speeds" are ethnic voting blocs forever grateful to the party that lifted them out of the mire. Erskine-smith fell to that double edged sword.
