Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Anyways, a simple google search reveals you’re generally not able to carry a knife as a gym goer. 

Kind of a silly assertion in your post I think. I get what you’re trying to say but we’re turning into the UK anyways and it’s not because people are demanding 1 set of standards apply to everyone and not letting minorities have more rights than the rest of us, which is ironically also a feature of the UK

Its also not illegal for me to walk around with my unloaded non-restricted firearm. But I guarantee you its will cause me legal problems.

I always assumed the legality was based on context and reason. Like you can legally always carry a knife for some sort of “utility”, but what utility could you argue for having one in a gym. 

In any case, thankfully the conversation isn’t about whether or not it should be legal, even in places devoid of rational thought like r/canada. People just want to have the same standard applied to everyone. People also find the character in question deeply distasteful. I just don’t think we need to ignore the obvious here thinking it will somehow help us achieve open carry of handguns or something, cause it won’t.

Just googled it.. honestly don’t understand why this was an issue at all. Of all places, gym is filled with a lot of heavy throwable stuff. A small knife is probably the last thing to worry about in such environment

Don’t you need a plausible purpose to be carrying a knife though? I have trouble believing I wouldn’t get into trouble if I openly carried a knife into a gym. I think what we all want is for people to at the very least be treated the same and not have a two tiered legal system
