Feets / Collection / My build New exempted pistol has arrived! (BC)

Super excited that my first exempted pistol has finally arrived after ordering it beginning of June.

Shoutout to BCTSA, IRUNGUNS, and funny enough, the Federal Firearms office in Miramichi NB, for helping make the process as seamless as can be (in our current firearms climate).

Feel free to ask any questions on the process and I’ll do my best to reply/DM. :)

Edit: everyone that’s requested a DM, I will absolutely get to all of you later tonight or tomorrow! :)

BC and AB are easy if you’re in those provinces!

u/Eyeronick 7d ago

I am, we chatted in another thread :) still jealous, love these pistols when I rented them few times.

My apologies for forgetting, there’s been a lot of questions and comments today haha. I would recommend going for it man! It’s a great avenue to get a pistol

u/NecessaryRisk2622 7d ago

I think I have to get on this train!

3

u/Eyeronick 7d ago

No need to apologize, you're helping a lot of people! Looking forward to it. Looking at a few, possibly a sig that is convertible to 9mm with a slide swap. Mmmm. Just need to wait for my rpal to come back. Should've added it to my license when I took the course in 2016, but a fool I am.

5

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 7d ago

If you do find a supply of sigs that’s convertible, let me know! Those are a hot commodity right now haha

I know you can apply through BCTSA which is a bit easier, but I’m not aware of such organisation in AB. Would you elaborate plz?

3

u/OkBurner777 5d ago

There is an AB organization they’ve just been hesitant to issue letters unless you have match results - which means you need to attended the handful of yearly events around the Calgary area with loaner handguns available.

cries in NB

u/FailedCoder86 6d ago

AB is easy? Currently trying to do it and it is not that easy! No many matches to compete in.

Onterrible sucks ass man

12

u/Elbro_16 7d ago

Didn’t a guy from Ontario post himself getting three 22lr handguns recently?

12

u/Whispersfine 7d ago

Have you seen the process he went through tho? So much more complicated than other provinces.

12

u/Bambam4040 7d ago

Just did mine today thanks for your help

I sent in my request for an exemption letter a few days ago and i eagerly await their response. You bought it from irg in arizona presumably? I called and left a message but they haven't bothered to call me back. This just reminded me that I even left a message.

9

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 7d ago

I have the email of the person in the AZ department to send the exemption letter to if that would help you?

2

u/Catstronaut11 7d ago

That would be great! Thank you!

1

u/AdhesiveCam 7d ago

I'll just call back. Have a couple lines out right now trying to track one down. Just lame customer service to not even bother calling me back

1

u/EliteDuck 4d ago

I would appreciate that email. I sent a submission via the contact form on the US site a week or so ago and have yet to hear back.

5

u/SharkSaver 7d ago

How long was the process? I hit order on Wednesday

8

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 7d ago

From irunguns I bought it beginning of June, and it was in the country July 7th, and in my possession today! (Canada post misplaced it however for a couple days so it could’ve been here by about the 10th).

Irunguns does an import/ export every 45 days, so they’re at day probably 37 right now before their next import

1

u/Brandon_awarea 5d ago

The worst part about importing is the wait. Other than that it’s a pretty easy process

Have you reached out by phone to the CFO to see what’s the holdup?

Silly question, do you belong to a gun range? Since they delay and deny requests for individuals who aren’t gun range members

3

u/Officialtopperharley 7d ago

I know there was a post a while back, but are you able to link me the process of getting an exempt pistol. Incredibly appreciated!

5

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 7d ago

Absolutely! I’ll DM you!

2

u/Pretend-League-6834 7d ago

I'd love to know about this as well! On my way to getting my PAL, just waiting for processing. I always wanted to get into shooting handguns but don't know where to start after C-21

1

u/Officialtopperharley 7d ago

Thanks a million.

1

u/Trick-Goat-3643 7d ago

Me as well please

1

u/Cloudayo 7d ago

I’d love info on this as well!

1

u/Aggravating_Button99 7d ago

Can I get that as well please.

1

u/MRWIGGLYWIGGLES 6d ago

I'd love to know how the process went and maybe get er done for myself in AB

2

u/Even-Somewhere-9554 7d ago

Nice.

My TX22 TORO was delivered to Az warehouse yesterday which missed the cut-off by 1 day so I have to wait until mid September to get it.

Just taking my time to request another Exemption letter for a Walther PPQ

Maybe the third one will be FN502 or Ruger MKIV like yours

-4

u/Curious_Joe2020 7d ago

Get a 1911 or Glock

3

u/Even-Somewhere-9554 6d ago

I personally do not like Glock and 1911 :)

2

u/Catstronaut11 7d ago

How long did it take for you to receive your exemption approval? Did they mail or email you?

4

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 6d ago

I got the exemption email from BCTSA two weeks to the day later, and was contacted by the govt probably another 2 weeks after that for the letter (when irunguns initiated the transfer)

2

u/Laboom7 7d ago

The name is Bond… James Bond.

Reminds me of the early 70s James Bond gun.

3

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 6d ago

Pretty close! The gun on the box art of Russia with love I believe was a colt woodsman, which shares a similar profile with the ruger mk4

u/Brymes13 6d ago

What pistol is this? I was able to get ahold of a cz 75 re registered with 22 kadet slide, it was silver and slide is black so waiting for the frame to come back black from black box customs. Also just put a deposit down on a staccato p re registered as 22. Feel like kadets going to be good for recoil training and staccato should be ok for rapid fire, but might want something for 25m single.

1

u/Kaisar69 5d ago

Where are you finding these re-registereds? I'm having a hell of a time getting a cz p-09 kadet with my exemption letter.

2

u/coolwooley 6d ago

I just realized something... Some stores may still have the CZ P-09 kadet pistols in storage. Not the conversions, the entire pistol. Would there be any issues with buying the .22 P-09 under the exemption and swapping the slide and barrel back to 9mm afterwards?

7

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 6d ago

So there’s a janky grey area loophole people are interpreting to be okay with such a caliber swap. The law states that you have 30 days to inform the CFO of a modification to a restricted firearm’s caliber (amongst other modifications). So people will keep the 9mm on for 29 days, switch it out back to .22 for a day, and switch it back to 9mm for another 29 days. That or swap it to 9mm at the range and then back to .22 for storage

1

u/MostEpicRedditor 21h ago

This is all so ridiculous if you step back and look at it all, the ban is so fucking absurd and it's hilarious how they can still be bypassed using these methods.

2

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 6d ago

Ontario has a higher burden of proof to compete. You have to join the SFC and compete in a certain number of matches with a loaner pistol (I believe), after which you can get an exemption for one of your own

2

u/starofthenorfffff 5d ago

Do they still give you the course or you had to have it before… like do we still have a chance to do the course and then get are license? Like how this works ?

1

u/throwaway11100217 6d ago

Looks like a star wars blaster lol

1

u/Fett750 6d ago

DM'd, no rush on a response though!

1

u/Oilmoneyy 6d ago

Hello! Id love to get some info on exemptions! Thank you!

1

u/vae-po 6d ago

I would like to get a DM on the process please! Thanks!

1

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 6d ago

You got it!

Edit: seems for some reason I can’t DM you. Feel free to DM me and I’ll respond :)

Anyone from the east coast having any luck?

1

u/ImprovementKnown2491 6d ago

Anyone know the process for exemption in Ontario?

1

u/Living-Bus-9619 6d ago

Congrats bud. Motivating me to get my own!!

1

u/Sodas_guy 6d ago

So no feet??

1

u/Icy_Days 6d ago

Hey wondering if there any way to do this in quebec or not at all

1

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 6d ago

Quebec I believe is the same as Ontario, which is you have to join the federal sports body, SFC, and compete in a certain number of matches/practices to qualify for an exemption. It’s laborious but doable

1

u/Icy_Days 6d ago

Ty for pointing me in the right direction. Any idea of what kind of resources I should be looking at? local clubs etc?

1

u/vmt8 6d ago

You have DM, thank you

1

u/Substantial-Cash-834 on 6d ago

Does this get actually registered to you, or is it technically owned by the shooting association?

2

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 6d ago

Completely registered to me and owned by me, not just a “long term loaner”

1

u/Substantial-Cash-834 on 6d ago

Awesome I’m in AB and will have to look into this

1

u/SNkasza 6d ago

I'd also like a DM on your process. I am in NB and part of a range that does IPSC shooting and would love to pick it up as a hobby!

1

u/Brandon_awarea 5d ago

Anyone do this in Manitoba?

1

u/Wooden_Week5385 5d ago

I’m a little late to the game here boys, how is it possible to get these pistols now? How do the exemption work? And what’s available to own now?

1

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 5d ago

Oh yeah, you can still take the restricted course no problem. My dad did his upgrade after the bans and my cousin got both for the first time post ban (there’s still some restricteds you can get without an exemption, like certain restricted shotguns)

1

u/RiskClassic889 5d ago

Anyone know a about that in Quebec if possible and if so, how ? ( home province of poly people, sorry guys !)

1

u/Bambam4040 5d ago

Hey what was the cost and total time for it?

1

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 4d ago

Time was May 17th to July 17th, so 2 months, cost was 369USD for the pistol, another 100USD for irunguns handgun application permit, after tax another 79$ USD or so, and then 67.50$CAD once it was in the country for import fees. Pretty expensive overall, and some people say .22 isn’t worth it, but I’m extremely happy for the opportunity to get a non antique pistol.

Alternatively, you can evade all the import stuff if you find one in the country, which is a little harder but not impossible

1

u/Bambam4040 4d ago

That is still cheaper than what I paid for mine here which was 1480

1

u/roadie-z 4d ago

Hey man, good for you. I would love to hear if you could give me some pointers to how to do it (I'm from AB). No rush but I'll appreciate and wait for your DM.

1

u/newagedefiance 4d ago

What is the governing organization in AB? I'd like to check out some matches so I can get some competitions under my belt.

1

u/Potential-Pair4715 4d ago

Can you only get 22lr?

1

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 4d ago

Without a coach, yes 22LR (and some cases 22WMR) is all you can get. You can get special coach signatures to potentially get higher calibers however

1

u/CDE42 2d ago

I got an mk4 lite but knew a guy who was wanting to sell, came with 5 mags and a sweet red dot... I shoot at a club with an Olympic level coach and got my first letter from BCTS. I also emailed the CFO office and everything went quicker and smoother than I expected.

What I'm curious about is the import process if you buy something and need to import it. I know how to get an exemption, just wondering how the import process worked for you and where you bought, and what you had to choose from... I think I know enough people to acquire several practice pistols and an actual Olympic level pistol but still want to know if and how importing works. Cheers

2

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 2d ago

Import process was fairly smooth actually. If you use irunguns, you can import any handgun off of their “USA” site, as long as a lady there named Carolyn gets your exemption letter for whatever handgun(s) you’re adding to cart, and as long as the pistol itself isn’t prohibited (like a snubby). And their website is packed to the gills with eligible pistols. After you choose your pistol and forward your relevant exemption to Carolyn, it’s pretty much just a waiting game. They handled getting it into the country, zero hangup, they handled the import paperwork, zero hangup, and the second it was in Canada they shipped it from their Alberta warehouse to here in BC.

The only hangup was Canada post losing the package. Phoned them, told them it was firearms related and I’d have to make a police case if they didn’t find it, and they found it at 1am haha. It was here two days later.

Which range has an Olympic level coach if I may ask? I’m only inquiring as calibers higher than .22 can be considered for exemption with a coach sign off so I was interested in learning more about that

1

u/CDE42 2d ago

Thanks for the info. I'm in Kelowna. I'm not sure what all his disciplines are, but 25m is one of them. I'm just getting started 🙂

2

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 2d ago

Nice! 25m you don’t even need to compete initially in in BC, just apply under wishing to train for it is sufficient

1

u/CDE42 1d ago

Have to start somewhere! I've had my exemption a while, I didn't know on timelines, so I planned early and in August I budgeted for the pistol. It's coming with a halosun red dot and 5 mags so I'm happy. I've actually shot it so I know I like it.

It's a lite model with the blue and gold accents. The guy I'm getting it from calls it his water gun 😂😂 🔫

1

u/TheLeftyHalfy 2d ago

I’m a few days late but also just wondering if you could provide some guidance on how you got it all worked out? Thanks!

1

u/Vintage_Pieces_10 2d ago

No worries, DM’!

-1

u/Davidflair97 6d ago

You guys are really investing more money in Canada? lol

1

u/4r4nd0mninj4 6d ago

Someone has to keep our sports alive during these trying times. 🤷‍♂️

0

u/Davidflair97 5d ago

Yeah I left the country and never coming back.
