Gun and gear reviews What’s going on with Gunpost prices?
What makes people post their used guns for above new prices? I’m looking for a 10/22 brand new they’re about $419.99 in my area, but every post I’m seeing is like $500-$1000. Why would anyone pay more for a used gun? I’m not even talking about modified ones, or optics or anything. Just a standard wood stocked ruger 10/22 for like $800.

The short answer is people are trying to recoup like 99% of what they spent. I'd argue a lot of items on gunpost are buyers remorse. I'd also not be surprised if a lot of people are in situations where they need to offload but don't want to offload (spousal requests, life changes etc) so they post abnormally high so it shows they are trying to sell but no one is willing to purchase.
The other issue is people don't monitor prices. In your example, stock 10/22s like you said are around $400 regular but they often go on sale in that $350 range easily (hell, even @ bass pro where prices are already over inflated). So seller probably bought at full pop and didn't realize they overspent nor are they looking at current pricing trends for new items. It's strictly "i paid x, so i expect to sell for x-10%".
This is where polite counteroffers come in and can go a very long way: "Hey, you have this listed for $X, but xyz stores have it listed for this brand new, would you be willing to let it go for y" vs "hey, your price is ass, i'll give you a spare button and some pocket lint for it"
