Gun and gear reviews S&W 1854 357 jamming
So far I’ve put 250 rounds through her.
This has happened a few times.
Example here in the video.
Today at the range I shot 100 rounds and this happened about 4 times.
Reasons?
Using PMC Bronze .357 Mag 158gr. JSP

The 1854s need to be run hard, don't have to be fast but you need to be firm.

Why I use semi auto rifles for my tracking/predator defense. You can run a pump or a lever almost as fast as a semi, but in a panic the chances that you do not operate the action fully and get a jam are significant.

1200+ through mine and I think she’s still in the breaking in stage. Action feels smoother and lighter bit by bit. I also had red knuckles last time I ran more than 100rnds through her cuz of cycling all the way. But that’s why callouses exist

I'm barely wise on guns but it's obvious that you're not going far enough on the action when trying to eject.
Lever action is one of the most reliable types out there, especially considering the age of the design. It's like having a pump action shotgun jam, or something. Just... Well, doesn't happen outside of user error.

Looks like your arms aren't long enough to properly cycle it while shouldered. May be beneficial to lower it from your shooting position to cycle the next round and then re-shoulder. Repeat. Unless you're doing some sort of speed shooting competition I don't see why this wouldn't be a viable fix for your problem

Don’t push the action down and forward, punch the action straight forward.

Short stroking action, be rough on it, rougher than you are on the wife, clean and lube try different ammo as well
Nothing to worry about
Just break her in like the prom queen

Short stroking, I’ve got more that 1000 rounds thru mine. Just a skill issue the more you use it the better you’ll get with it just practice fully cycling the action

Too much John wick, not enough John Wayne. You need to cycle the lever all the way forward until you feel a positive stop on the end of the stroke.

By the way that thing is ejecting youre barely even kissing the ejector when you cycle the action when you run the action like a man..... send the lever all the way forwards till it bottoms out then pull it back into you if she aint flinging brass youre doing something wrong my friend....

Tighten up the screw (and throw a bit of blue loctite on it) on the underside just forward of the lever. Same issue I had when I had my Henry Big Boy in .44. Should solve that problem for the most part hopefully for ya!

Wouldn't it be the lifter/elevator/feed ramp that guides the round from the tube magazine up into the chamber? Doesn't the extractor pull the empty casing backwards? Or does it do both here like in a Mauser 1898 action? I suspect those saying op needs to use more force on the lever are correct because it is an intermittent problem when he appears to be short stroking the lever. Just like an undergassed semi, a lever needs a certain amount of force to function reliably.

You're not fully cycling the action. Simple as that
