Misc Bear Creek Arsenal BC-8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lv7GCz56NAgI was wandering around youtube when I came across a SmallArmsSolutions review for this particular platform. Somewhat interestingly, it seems mostly C-21 compliant? It has a proprietary 5 round magazine and seems to be extended to work with their proprietary BC-8 uppers, so it's not AR-10 compatible. Thoughts on whether or not this would actually be legal to import into Canada? I suspect it might be caught on being an "AR Variant" but it'd be interesting to hear all of your thoughts.

It's a proprietary rifle made before Bill C21 explicitly for hunting so there's a good chance the RCMP lab would initially approve it. But the question is whether it would get caught up in a futuee OIC

First they banned actual assault rifles. Then they went after assault "style" rifles. Then the RCMP lab prohibited "variants" of assault "style" rifles. Now the antigunners are calling the SKS a "loophole". Eventually they'll call every gun a loophole of a variant of a style of an assault rifle.

they also tried to ban assault looking airosft and paintballs guns during the C21 legislation, which they called it "gate way" guns.

I think we can expect all semi-autos, and even some particularly "fast" bolt actions to get banned at some point. But the main question is "what is available to us now" that I'm curious about.

I’ve said it multiple times before and I’ll say it again.
It doesn’t matter how fast you can shoot a bolt action. Once all the semi-autos are moved into the Prohib category, bolt actions are next.Instead of them being hunting rifles they’ll turn into “high powered sniper rifles” and the argument of “nobody needs a sniper rifle, they serve no purpose other than on the battlefield” will become the new red herring.

Same here. At least with a shitty AR you can change out the components and actually have some aftermarket options.
Realistically nobody makes a truly terrible receiver set. It’s usually the internals that cause most the problems.

I quickly noticed from my friends and reviews of the company as a whole. But I'm more considering it in comparison to the turkish stuff currently for sale, rather than what folks over in the US have access to.

If any magazine over 5 rounds exists that it can take, and it was designed after C-21, its prohibited. If it was before, then that doesn't matter.
Unfortunately, for FRT purposes, the marketing ties itself to ARs
Running some of the biggest calibers, the Huntmaster redefines hunting with an AR.
So while it could maybe get a NR FRT. Things like that mean it almost certainly does not.

Yeah, I was noticing they really stress how similar it is to an AR even though the recievers seem distinct and incompatible with existing AR-10s. That was the one thing that I was wondering if it would kill it if anyone tried to import it.

I've heard BCA is trash. Also, they made an AR10 in .30-30, like what in the Kentucky Fried Fuck?!
Then again, I need a DBM semiauto .300 WM rifle that takes AR furniture.

It's questionably useful, highly impractical, but it does seem like it at least fits the legal definitions of what is importable.
Even if it being "tactical" and "AR inspired" is a death knell by direct naming.

We won't have the choice. Even if this does technically meet the criteria to avoid being caught by the "assault weapon" ban, it would be instantly proscribed by name regardless because of it's appearance.
The only semi-autos we can get now are overtly fuddy ones.

As the other commentor pointed out, we don't really have much choice. While I'm not confident in whether or not it can actually be brought up here, I'm also happy to find something even somewhat modern that seems like it would be legal.

Given the Carmel and Makasi managed to make it in, it's definitely worth looking a bit broader beyond the big name manufacturers; even if they aren't as reputable as them. Any port in a storm, I suppose.
