It really irks me that the media has been glossing over the bystander killed by the police. Almost lumping that death in with the casualties caused by the shooter. Very disingenuous

I mean I’m telling on myself a bit, but I’m very progressively minded. Disclaimer: I didn’t vote LPC.

I’m a staunch advocate of evidence-based policy and consultation with subject matter experts, which is a big reason why I’m very against C-21 and strict gun control overall (with a few caveats). I’m also a strong advocate for media literacy for the exact reasons you’re suggesting. Propaganda is incredibly insidious and prevalent in today’s media (not just the news but social media as well) and our own critical thinking is constantly under attack thanks to the internet.

What frustrates me about nearly all media and many (most) politicians in parliament is that they often DONT consult experts and tend to overreach without regard to the real impact of whatever legislation they’re passing.

Many of the people in my circle are also left leaning and also very against the buyback and bans.
