So how does La Presse know he was a PAL holder? Wouldn't that information be released by the RCMP?

I mean let's be real here, he was from Alberta and used a non restricted, cheap and available firearm. Odds are he either had a pal or lived with someone that did.

Focusing on the PAL here is sorta missing the point. He likely would have killed more with a van or knife. The only reason he was spotted was because he had a gun. Odds are. The same outcome would have occurred if he had some kind of manual action.

I agree, but it's on the press to present factual information and conjecture and "odds" clearly as such.

There's plenty of points at play with an event as horrendous as this, but my particular focus here is journalistic integrity and how misinformation spreads. Poly is using a source that is playing the odds with a claim, I was simply wondering if it had been confirmed he was a PAL holder as that also leads to other points and avenues of discourse (how long did he have his PAL, was he appropriately vetted, etc.).

Completely agree.
