Fix my gun Rifle Jumping.

So I am not new to shooting but have yet to experience this. And yes i k ow I sound dumb but I gotta ask.

When i am running my Ruger American Ranch, I find that the rifle "hops" after each shot. I am holding tight as I do with any other rifle. Admittedly this is my first "short " rifle. Could it be caused by the muzzle blast? Its 6.5 Creedmoor if that helps. It really not causing any issue with accuracy but is killing my follow through.

If i put it in my BOG tripod it is nearly non existent, which is why I feel it may be muzzle blast coming off the shooting table at the range.

You do have a sling on the rifle, right? And you are using the sling to stabilize the rifle, right?

Right?

Yes. I even know how to use it. Lol

Honestly this is the most jumpy rifle I have ever fired.

What other rifles/cartridges have you fired?

5.56 7.62x39 .308 .22lr

I do know that rifles jump and you need to hold them inna certain way. This one just seems to have "extra jump"

Honestly it could be my form as I have no experience shooting from a bench. All I have done before this is unsupported in Standing, Sitting, and prone.

If the 308 was a long ish barrel with a medium or heavy contour (or a semi auto or heavy, or a bulpup) then it definitely makes sense that this somewhat lite 6.5 (with a short lite barrel, so less weight up front) jumps more. The others are much lighter cartridges with little to no jump..

Sitting upright and standing allow your body to sway, which should show you less jump. Id expect prove and hunched over a bench to be similarly rigid.

The main thing I'd say for follow through is didn't fight the recoil/jump. Just be solid. Fighting it and trying to push back is a way to develop a flinch and need up your accuracy. If possible mix a snap cap into your magazine when your not expecting it and see if you subconsciously move when you pull the trigger expecting the rifle to fire.
