Hello! First post. I have a turkunelli clone. After first 50 shells (score 00 buck) I had 5 malfunctions. All of them failures to feed. The shells were damaged trying to be fed. See picture for example.
Thoughts? Is this something that may resolve itself as I continue to break the gun in?
Make sure she’s good and lubed up, and there’s no burrs where the shells are getting poked there. Break in is part of the process with the Turks, they need heavy brass until they smooth out. Good luck

Plus, breaking in any semi auto shotgun is best done with 50-100 high velocity SLUGS
your failure to feed is likely due to ammo selection.
I picked up an operator elite and ran a few boxes of HV slugs through it, and now it cycles light weight birdshot no problem
That shell damage definitely looks like you need to take a dremel to some high/rough points in your action to smooth it out.
Disassemble the entire thing before doing this to prevent metal shavings/flakes/dust jamming up any other part of your new toy

I learned recently that Canuck does Design, Model Testing, Warranty and QC in Canada. Theyre only manufactured in Turkey. Out of all the Turkish brands theyre actually the one that gives its buyers the most peace of mind.
You could probably reach out to their CS for some insight and answers.
Girsan is also a Turkish manufacturer that produces some really.gkkd quality firearms. They're more known for their pistols but they make a nice interia shotgun as well in the MC312
It's not the shotgun. It's the shell. Notice the divot is at the point of the crimp??
Challenger 00 buck have this problem. The crimp isn't fully rounded (basically a hexagon) and the corner catches on the feed ramp, stops and gets destroyed by the bolt. Most slug rounds don't have this issue since the edge is rolled in and not folded over.
Work in your Canuck with a box or two of magnum slugs. Avoid cheap shells with that terrible faceted crimp.
Once I realized using this cheap ammo caused this issue, my Panzer M4 Speed Pro runs as smooth as butter. ZERO F2F, extracting, or stove-piping.
Edit: OP needs to see if it's a burr as BowFella mentioned below.
My own Turkish M4 clone had a small burr on the feed ramp that hung up three rounds during the first 80 I shot through the gun.
I applied 60 seconds of sandpaper by hand, followed by 3 minutes of Dremel polishing with the soft wool attachment and some Autosol metal polish cream.
It runs smoothly and reliably now, no failures to feed.
Maybe your shottie will benefit from similar polishing.
As I was cleaning it tonight I found a similar sharp burr near the exact same spot. I found it by slicing my finger lol.
Ill try something similar. Im a little nervous about altering the firearm. Im new to owning guns. Worried ill over do it and cause an unfixiable mistake.
I was scared too when I was first told to "do my own lapping and smoothing."
Now that I've polished the feed ramps on four shotguns, three rifles, and a pistol, I feel good about this polishing being good for the gun.

Nope it's the shotgun. Clearly a burr on the feeding ramp that needs filing down. Shot several hundreds of rounds of challengers and score ammo and never once had this issue. Infact I shot a box of these exact same score 00buck yesterday out of my mossberg 930. No issues.
I have fed all kind of junk to my Benelli M4s and never ever had anything like this. I've used score slugs, score buck, challenger target load, challenger slugs, never once had ripped up shell like this.
That’s what you get with the higher end shotties. Better QC and machining so you don’t have to do it yourself. If you’re gonna buy a turknelli some polishing is required.
From my experience is a combination of both. I have challenger shells like that and they don't run right in any of my shotguns simply because the shells aren't crimped right. But at the same time I had to polish out my turknelli feed ramp too
Not even just Turkish guns, last 870 I bought had a fat lip on the top of the chamber that shells would get hung up on, and wouldn't feed at all until I filed it down.
I was not impressed to say the least. FTF aside the whole gun felt loose and sloppy. I can't speak for their rifles, but I won't be buying one to find out.
Its a good shotgun. You can browse the official benelli (or mossberg) forums and trust me they also also have issues.
My point is. My thread wasn't asking "should I buy a m4 clone or something else". It was asking about information about a particular issue i encountered today.
You added nothing of value to that. Took it as an opportunity to spout low IQ brand slop instead of actually trying to help.
Coming from an American perspective Canadian guns are absolute junk nowadays. I've seen so many different guns come out of Canada that barely work, or simply don't work at all. This alone would make me move to the US.
These aren't Canadian guns. They are turkish knockoffs using canadian sounding brand names.
You guys get them as sds or charles daily branded guns.
Also the shells in the picture also look like they are hand crimped, further aggravating loading issues with poor quality gun manufacturing. (whether they are or machine crimp doesn't really matter)
