This unfortunately isn't the first time an officer has been killed and an sks was used. In 2023 two Edmonton Police officers were killed with an SKS that had been illegally trafficked to a 16 year old.

I believe I remember poly trying to use it to argue for the SKS prohibition back then and liberals resisted shockingly, though they vowed to find some other "solution". If they were looking for an incident were police were killed with the SKS they had that reason available long before this incident.

I think first of all they know the sks numbers are extremely high, it may actually be the most common centrefire non-shotgun, single model, firearm in Canada, and it is incredibly common for hunting among native groups so any ban of it feels targeted to them no matter how it works. Not only will they not get them back in any great numbers, they risk very unpopular charges and arrests of various native tribes members who will no doubt (rightly) tell the government yo pound sand. It's nothing but L's all the way down.

The 16yr old used a GSG STG-44, not an SKS.

This news clip shows the .22

Sorry you are correct I was confusing the Edmonton shooting with the one in Innisfail, Ontario in which an SKS was used, in a similar ambush scenario against police.

yeah that's the one I remembered. Also the port Alberni killers used an SKS and at least one of them was a legal gun owner.

I think it was rumoured the Tumbler Ridge shooter used an SKS as they had posted photos of theirs in this sub but it was taken away when their PAL was revoked. I don't think it's been released what firearm was used in the shooting and where it came from.

Basically an indirect war against the natives.
