This is a newer reason why I have no regard or care about any police officer deaths in the line of duty: Incompetence in preventing the tragedy from happening in the first place & in dealing with it live. The poor conduct of these officers reflect on the organization as a whole.

The other older reason is that I firmly believe that if you keep an instrument capable of death on you for any reason, you are effectively carrying a double-edged sword that you will be gripping bare-handed on the blade sooner or later. So don't be surprised if you bleed.

If you can't make peace with that, you need to find a different job and/or do something else. These are mechanical devices that demand utmost due-diligence and care to operate safely & effectively, there is virtually no room to have anything in the way of safe operation especially if it is to potentially use them in anger and sometimes unthinkable scenarios.
