Was it a "modern" sks or did it just have a foregrip

Wood sks with foregrip (had to delete last picture because it showed gunman)

Im pretty sure thats not a foregrip, the magazine is open. Cops probably left it open after they cleared the rifle

He died while trying to reload, so thats why it open I think

When you stripper clip load an SKS you do not need to open the internal magazine.

It is a good way to empty the gun, though, so a knowledgeable officer probably did it to empty it and the used the bolt to eject the chambered round. Or the shooter fucked up, that too is a possibility.
