Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

I sure am glad I sold my SKS on gunpost a couple of days ago. Mighty convenient I got rid of it just before a shooting was committed with one. Mighty convenient.

It was a handshake deal off of Gunpost, let me look at his PAL and his drivers license to confirm. He totally definitely did buy it and is in fact really a real person who exists in reality!

Edit: a good hypothetical example of why you shouldn't talk to cops.

And that poor guy in mtl is another practice example of why you should stay away from cops.

Genuine question, whenever I’ve been to those Legion Hall gun shows, not a soul there does the whole online verification thing, (mainly because most of those guys are like 80) and often I have to remind them to even check my PAL.

So you have explained to me it’s illegal to not run the license through RCMP, are these gun shows basically just rampant with technical crime? Is it a crime that isn’t as strictly enforced or are these old dudes just constantly getting by on blind luck?

Oh and btw, I messaged this totally real guy back explaining my mistake, and he returned the rifle to me and I gave him his money back, but oh darn he cut the receiver up and welded the barrel shut. looks like it will never fire again. Just a hunk of wood and steel now

The rule is new (as of 2022 if i remember correctly). You can do it over the phone too (which some might be doing). The generated reference number is good for 90 days, so repeat sales in that time period would be covered.

But I'd guess some people just don't know (or care) about the new law and that the police aren't there to see it happen.

It’s way to difficult and time consuming to enforce. Like the cops in Canada are apparently pretty stretched thin so they can’t just do a random audit of a PAL holder unless they have a meaningful reason from my understanding.
