Likely going to see bans be implemented via the new LPC majority.

Oh absolutely we will. What's worse is they'll use it as an election promise next time around. Like they've been doing since 2020.

or grandfathering of the guns anyway

Never going to happen with provost in government

Call me a hopium dealer, but I have this thought in the back of my mind that they made Provost an MP just to shut her up.

u/Lumindan Jun 20 '26

That's hopium because they're still platforming her at every public safety meeting and letting Poly run free.

She was close to imploding previously, perhaps she'll disgrace herself in front of the cameras and she'll go away.

Okay here's a not so hot take. I think provost is fine where she is because to most well adjusted folks who understand history and logic, she comes off as a zealot and not a good person.

It's the same with Gary. You want a bad liar in these positions because it exposes how stupid it all is.

Even if they shuffled her to the backrooms, the next person might be even worse.

Well she hasn't shut up, has she?

The only non partisan and unanimous agreement in all of politics is that none of them ever do.

They're a bunch of yapping muppets.

You don't give someone like her a platform to make her stop talking.

Yeah u/Armed_Accountant didn't think about that take very hard lol.

She is absolutely bound to the party line now or she will get the boot.

Check Steven Guilbeault, he was a major environmental activist, after joining the liberals he had to go along and say ''yes that's great policy'' on stuff he clearly thought was not OK for years.

Exactly my thoughts. Yeah she can try to be dramatic, but for the most part they got exactly what they wanted in their first goalpost and they know it.

Don't fall into doom and gloom. They barely have political capital for C22. People voted for Carney because he was the "master economist". It will not go over well when 0 major projects have started and they table legislation for gun bans.

Lol and we would buy 10x the confiscations numbers overnight making it unfeasible to even try again.

lol and Carney is now bailing out condo developers because they don’t want to sell at a loss. You can’t make this shit up.

u/swpz01 Jun 21 '26

This one was baffling, even for liberals, it's a new low.

10

u/Unfortunate_Sex_Fart al Jun 21 '26

I’m not surprised in the least.

Carney’s a major player in Brookfield. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander. If condo prices drop, it’s bad for Brookfield.

u/JE1324 Jun 23 '26

Whats even more baffling is how much support its getting from the left side of the aisle including NDP voters. Carney used the word "affordable" and they just tuned out everything else.

I want this to be true but it feels like Canadians are so soft and weak willed they'll just shrug it off to be on the winning side regardless of the consequences.

Practically everything they've rushed through the house has nothing to do with what they campaigned on but no one seems to be holding them accountable

Their faces at the bank when I show up to remortgage for that purchase lol.

The interesting thing would be the criminal code piece. If the SCC deems these firearms to be reasonable for sporting and hunting purposes (I.e. the government ignored this) I wonder if it’d be more difficult to actually try and ban the same models again.

This puts the onus back on the government to implement specific language in another bill to try and justify why these same firearms are NOT reasonable, no? Not a lawyer by any stretch but that specific context is important when trying to predict the potential legislative response to repealing the OIC’s

u/snasna102 Jun 21 '26

If there’s even a lapse in the ruling and prohibited guns become available again, I’m spending 15K on all the guns I have wanted the last 6 years.

If we all flood the zone, the next time they try, it’s a steeper and more expensive hill to die on.

9

u/Natural_Comparison21 Jun 20 '26

I would imagine they would have to change the CC definition of what a ‘reasonable’ firearm is.

5

u/MapleDesperado Jun 21 '26

This is the strongest argument.

2

u/GoGetInvolved Jun 22 '26

The only reason that reasonable might matter is because they wrote it in the law. They could pass a new bill to delete the reasonable firearm language and OIC again.

But they'll probably do blanket bans instead based on whatever their new advisory group tells them.

17

u/Lumindan Jun 20 '26

Grandfathering would be ultimate last trap if they can't implement new legislation with their majority.

Reminder, it won't be with use AND registration leads to confiscation.

8

u/chillyrabbit Jun 20 '26

I don't think grandfathering would be reasonable either, because it runs into the same problem. How do you know if your "variant" is eligible to be grandfathered firearm or not?

u/itsmeAG32 Jun 20 '26

What about the whole compensation thing, the fact they want to us turn in our guns in for a 1/3 of what we paid or even less, How is that even legal.

So does that mean we will get 6 guns back for cowboy action shooting?
