Feets / Collection / My build Some 12(X) Photos
Here are some more (mostly)12(X) photos, based on the largely positive response from the other day. This batch are the classic "Battle Rifles", developed during the 1950s and 60s for the Cold War era. Many continue to soldier on in remote battlefields worldwide to the present day. In chronological order they are:
- Russian SKS (1953-?)
- Metric FN FAL (1954-Present)
- Standard FN C1A1 (1956-1986)
- SIG Sturmgewehr 57 (1957-1990)
- USGI M14 (1957-1964)
- AI AR10 Sudanese variant (1958-1985)
- HK G3A3 (1959-1996)
- Beretta BM-59 (1959-1997)
- AI AR10 Portuguese variant (1960-1976)

I’m unsure of what license you have but are you still allowed to go take your rifles out and shoot at ranges/crownland or can you only collect them?

The CFC no longer issues Special Authority to Possess permits to lawfully transport 12(×) long-guns to ranges where they can be discharged. Bill C10A changed the rules in 2005. If you are fortunate enough to live on land where you can safely shoot, then you are good to go....

So they can never leave your property, but if you happened to live on a rural acreage pre 2005, you could have been plinking away with these for the last 21 years?

Pretty sure you can get ATTs for prohibs for other reasons, like bringing it to a gunsmith, to a business in order to sell it, because you’re moving etc. The law just makes it impossible to get an ATT to take it to go shoot.
The solution is bring the range to the prohibs, which requires having the land necessary to put up a CFO approved range. Like a restricted, my understanding is that you can’t just shoot it on any old private property.

It is cheap Chinese (Gexgune factory) product sold on Amazon in different colours for $18.95 CAD.

I have endorsements on my RPAL which allow me to own and collect (but not currently transport for discharge), specific long-guns that were prohibited by OIC during the early 1990s. I am qualified to possess everything other than fully-automatic firearms. I am grandfathered for OIC 12(3), (4) and (5) long-guns and 12(6) Short-Barrelled Handguns.

Yeah, except for the part where you have to be an old man like me (61) to have been grandfathered back in the early 1990s....

I was about to go nuts when you included the sks and thought that mf better be full auto to be prohib.

The SKS is why I said the pics are MOSTLY 12(x). The SKS, although limited to 300m because of its intermediate cartridge, was nonetheless the Russians' Cold War semi-auto Battle Rifle.

The Stg 57/SG 510 looks a bit different than what I've seen around with the wood furniture. Could you elaborate a bit on that one?

It is the "American Match-Target" or "AMT" model, developed specifically for the US Sporting market. They basically ground off the Rifle Grenade Ribs on the exposed exterior of the Barrel and swapped out the military Black Rubber Furniture for some fancy French Walnut. This was done to make the SIG rifle more appealing to the mainstream sporting market in the US in the face of the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 and other anti-gun measures.

I am still keen on acquiring a few specific 12(3) Converted-Automatic submachineguns should they ever appear for auction. The Smith & Wesson Model 76 springs immediately to mind, as does the Mini Uzi. Where rifles are concerned, I am out of display space. That said, I could still use a Beretta Model 70 Assault Rifle for the Cold War collection.....

How long ago did you acquire all these and how was the process back then, you definitely knew what you were collecting too I’m assuming pre internet?

I've been actively collecting firearms since my first AR15A2 Sporter 2 in 1986. So 40 years. Back then, anything other than an Ar15 or PCC was non-restricted and as simple as walking into a sporting goods store, paying, then leaving with your new acquisition.
