Feets / Collection / My build HK-93 Sporting/Utility Rifle

New (to me) is this OIC 12(5) HK-93 5.56mm/.223 cal Sporting/Utility Rifle, purchased through Switzer's April 2026 Auction. It accepts proprietary 25, 30 and 40-round 5.56mm magazines, the latter being aluminum manufacture for light weight. Note the original South African ARMSON-brand Occluded-Eye Gunsight (OEG) in the 2nd photo, which was effectively the world's first mass-produced "red dot" sight in which one eye sees the dot on a black background and the other eye sees the target and surrounding terrain, over which the red dot appears. It takes some practice, but works quite well with some basic familiarity.

Beautiful rifle. You are very lucky to be grandfathered for 12(5).

Luck? Not really. I saw what was coming and ensured that I had as wide a variety of military and military-style firearms las I could afford so that I would be grandfathered. That was planning. Determination and resilience came into play in keeping at least one firearm in each OIC 12(x) category registered to my name despite their safe-queen status for the past 23 years. Maintaining my Grandfathered status in every OIC 12(X) category (less 12(2) Full-Automatic - I was too young in 1978), has allowed me to expand my personal collection into a fairly thorough reference library of the major Post-WW2 military "Cold War" Rifle, SMG and Handgun designs.

I had the opportunity to meet John hipwell from Wolverine supply and look through his personal collection many years ago. What an experience that was

John and I are quite good friends, dating back to gun shows where he displayed tables in the late 1980s. I have purchased quite a few of the firearms pictured from either John's personal collection or as consignment pieces through Wolverine. Many good memories of hunting on John's land, BBQs, the Machinegun 1998 event, competition shoots, etc. To say that John is a good man is to make a vast understatement. He is salt of the earth.

That’s what I got from him too. Wish there was more men like him around.
