New (to me) is this OIC 12(5) HK-93 5.56mm/.223 cal Sporting/Utility Rifle, purchased through Switzer's April 2026 Auction. It accepts proprietary 25, 30 and 40-round 5.56mm magazines, the latter being aluminum manufacture for light weight. Note the original South African ARMSON-brand Occluded-Eye Gunsight (OEG) in the 2nd photo, which was effectively the world's first mass-produced "red dot" sight in which one eye sees the dot on a black background and the other eye sees the target and surrounding terrain, over which the red dot appears. It takes some practice, but works quite well with some basic familiarity.

2 weeks before the 12.5 ban it was between a Colt XM177 or an HK93 Sporter.

I chose poorly...

I dunno about that..... there is a lot to like about the XM177E2 and its Air Force cousin the GAU-5/5. Here's my "Son Tay Raider" clone built on a Colt AR15 Carbine with original Vinyl-Acetate covered Aluminum Buttstock, etc. Very compact and lightweight = fast handling in close quarters.

Yup. That was her!

Only problem is is that I didn't know what I had and proceeded to mill off the hand guard and remove the flashhider to "update" the rifle to early M4 configuration. Doh!

I wish I had internet in the mid 90's. I'm sure someone (not my gunsmith) would have told me I'm an idiot.

Edit: My poor choice back then kept me out of the 12.5 fan boi club...
