"The RCMP centre defines crime guns as firearms that were used or suspected to have been used in criminal offences, guns whose serial numbers have been obliterated or altered, firearms that were found but not reported lost or stolen, and replicas, toys, 3D-printed guns, pellet or air guns that have been used in criminal offences"

The two big things here are:

1) Ontario and Quebec were not included in this data.

2) weapons traced included toys, replicas, and air guns, but we don't know what proportion of the sample they made up. Given that air guns and replicas are commonly found on criminals, I wouldn't be surprised if they made up a large chunk of the sample.

We will never know.

They are all classified as "crime guns". Even if the stats for ON & QC were included...there is no distinction which makes the data totally unreliable and nothing more than a prop for political theatre.
