Misc Safe to shoot?
I was gifted some miscellaneous 22lr and 12g shells . They have varying degrees of patina and corrosion (see in sample). Do you think these are safe to shoot and if so what level of corrosion is to much.

You can brush most of that corrosion off with a bronze brush. It'll stick a bit in the chamber but should be fine otherwise

Yea it's fine. You'll probably get some duds/misfires for the 22LR ammo but if so just toss them out. I've never seen a 12G round not go off tbh so those should be fine. The only issue you'll have after shooting dirty ass ammo is having a dirty ass gun lol

I shot some 40-50 year-old 12ga shells a few weeks ago, Father in law brought them out.
Pretty sure some of them were even reloads based on the crimps and wear on the casing. Told him you first, I had a few 100 rounds with me anyways. After he made a few go bang without issue, I shot a few dozen of them with no issues or misfires. Only thing I noticed was the consistency, some shot like target loads, some shot like slugs or turkey loads. All were 2 3/4" so it was probably due to variable hand loads, loaded for different long forgotten purpose, though all were bird shot.

Branch breakers are a classic home load. Powder, wad, bird shot, and a ball bearing on top. Ball bearing clears branches and drops out. Bird shot harvests the bird for the freezer. As long forgotten load though, you'd turn pheasant into racoon feed everywhere.

Ouuuu love dem High Brass shells. My friend has some old high brass paper rounds that were literally a blast to shoot. Packed quite a punch and every shot would punch out a bunch of confetti š Great visuals

I had a bunch of 410 paper slugs years ago, they were blowing half the paper out the barrel. Use them for coyotes, it was like a birthday party every time I shot one!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly from the look id run all of these except maybe the one 12 gauge with active rust/gunk on it. Ive found and used ammo from abandoned properties that was in far worse condition but still ran fine just dirty

I donāt wanna be that guy, but whenever Iām not if I should shoot something, I generally donāt. Especially if itās four shells and a few cheap .22s. That said, that small calibre rim fire looks fine š

these are just four shells out of probably 50 I just pulled out a couple of examples. Fs tho I wonāt be heartbroken if the 22 isnāt shootable

Fair! I was just going on what you postedā¦and it was only my opinion. I reload, and if Iām ever not sure about a cartridge, I gas it. More of a ābetter safe than sorryā mantra. Just my two cents. But donāt get your life lessons from me š¤£

Careful with the 12g. Ive Shot old old shells that break apart and fail to extract or leave part of the shell on chamber. Sitting there digging them out with a screw driver

Its an Italian brand of firearm, Beretta was founded in the 1500's making cannons. The A400 extreme and 1301 are absolute masterpieces imo, and very soft shooting.
