Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Does anyone know when we can expect the Supreme Court case to start? Mandatory “handgun when?”

Handguns are apparently harder to fight. I really hope there’s some effort to at least get IPSC recognized. I want to be able to get an exemption to compete 😭

Oh, shut up with this nonsense.

When people say “all politicians are the same,” they mean they’re all self-serving, slimy, and willing to say whatever gets votes. They do NOT mean the actual policy outcomes are the same.

The Conservatives fought the OICs at every turn. They abolished the long-gun registry. They ran on repealing the gun bans. Pierre Poilievre has repeatedly stated he would reverse the Liberal gun bans. Conservatives are the ones currently opposing these measures in Parliament, in court, and in the court of public opinion.

Are they perfect? No. If public opinion shifted enough, they will eventually compromise on some of these issues. That’s politics.

But saying they’re the SAME as the Liberals? The same as the party that called for and did the bans, expanded them repeatedly, and is pursuing confiscation measures and MORE bans?

Give me a break.

This “both sides hurr durr” nonsense only makes sense to you if you’ve paid absolutely no attention to Canadian firearms policy over the last decade. You can argue the Conservatives haven’t done enough. You can argue they should fight harder. But pretending there’s no difference between the parties on gun policy is detached from reality.

The Marxist-Leninist/Tankie types really are a strange subculture, but really, the pro-USSR/Stalin propaganda can only explain so much. Conviction doesn't just come from propaganda, it's also an equal amount of belief, personal experience, and desire.

Pretty sure the cuckservatives pushed for more gun control after oka, even if they aren't exactly the same you still get my point that the cuckservatives won't do scat despite their rhetoric.
