News / Politics / Activism ASFCP: new page showing collection schedule by province; AB and SK excluded

https://www.canada.ca/en/public-safety-canada/campaigns/firearms-buyback/firearm-collection-timeline.html

From the beginning, the "ASFCP" has included two ominous footnotes alluding to how they're going to violate gun owners that declare their property.

- "Compensation is not guaranteed"

And, should you reside in AB or SK

- "Individuals who live in Alberta or Saskatchewan should consult their provincial government for laws or regulations put in place that may impede or limit their participation in the program."

Now, we know there is a licensing scheme for potential private collection agents in the Alberta legislation. I have not looked into SK.

Should you contact the AB CFO, you will learn the Federal government has not applied for any confiscation agent licensing.

So, the very obvious indication here is that they intend to wash their hands of responsibility in these two provinces and leave any owners who declared property to face the end of the amnesty with no option but to deactivate or surrender their property.

Absolutely shameful how this program has been handled.

Mass non compliance is the only way.

Still blows my mind they got 67,000 turned in. Extremely disappointing

They haven't got 67k turned in, just declared. People have with drawn since then, plus the guns the program won't collect in AB and Sask.

Then remember thar this program is done by appointment, so people have to actually bother to make an appointment and show up. Given that most people work Monday to Friday, it means the program will effectively mostly be done on evenings and weekends, assuming the program has the volunteers to run. Its quickly running out of time.

And there is also the 2+ million guns that weren't declared. The government hasn't publicly declared their plans to collect those, and even though the window for compensation has closed, presumably hundreds of thousands of people will have to hand them in by october 31st (i know they won't but the government should be planning for it and their not).

I do think that a large chunk of that number is stuff that has been in police possession. IIRC the initial week after the program started they claimed 21K and then a week (or several?) after that they claimed not even 23K. It took 2 more months to make it to 67K.

There would absolutely have been a higher participation rate in the first week overall too but I'm convinced the RCMP was told to clean house on seized/surrendered firearms if they were on the prohib list.

Could be the dumbest comment on tic tok…..and that’s saying something.

lol…..you guys don’t think mass non- compliance is exactly what the liberals want ?? At the end of the amnesty, the Government will suspend all licenses and brand us criminals.

The only way to prevent it, is to put so much pressure on provincial leaders…..they interfere on our behalf. Looks Like that is what is happening amongst many provinces.

The clock is ticking and just waiting for the deadline like nothing will happen afterwards, just makes us look like fools.

Are you lost? Did you just comment to fear monger?

The government will never end the program because then they'd lose the shield they have on public safety. They need to keep the show running and they don't have a method to track or collect. What you're saying is the government is willing to criminalize hundreds of thousands of people overnight. Absolutely out to lunch take.

The only way to prevent it, is to put so much pressure on provincial leaders…..they interfere on our behalf. Looks Like that is what is happening amongst many provinces.

How do you think it got there in the first place? Mass non-compliance is part of it because it shows how wasteful the program is and taxes the police bodies that have to answer to the province.

The clock is ticking and just waiting for the deadline like nothing will happen afterwards, just makes us look like fools.

You're young and naive or here with a bad faith argument. We've seen how this has gone before, some us lived through the long gun registry. Same threats, same fear monger.

Mass non-compliance the only way forward until a different government comes into power.

I've seen bad takes on this sub, but man you should put a /s at the end of yours because yikes.

Mass non compliance literally worked for the long gun registry
