Buy recommendations Gun Safe

Post image

Yay or nay? $499 CT.

I forgot to add some context here.

I’m planning to put at least five in there:

  1. Kel-Tec KSG12 with a red dot
  2. Adler 224 with a red dot
  3. Renegade with a Vortex Venom
  4. Mossberg 590R
  5. TBD

Keep in mind that this isn’t fire rated, despite what they advertise.

I personally prefer the cheap gun cabinet style to these faux safes. I just buy more cabinets once I fill them up.

Excuse my ignorance, how can you tell if a safe is actually fire rated? And secondly, is there not a consumer protection law somewhere that prevents them from false advertising like that?

I have a faux safe similar to the one OP linked that I bought 20 years ago, the fire-proofing is just a layer of 1/2” drywall. There are no special fire rated seals or anything so the heat from a house fire is free to enter through the door gasket once it melts. Watch a few YouTube videos on these sort of safes and you can see real life examples of them failing.

After I realized mine was not fireproof I went and spoke with a locksmith who carries actual fireproof gun safes. They start at around $4500 for a 25 gun safe with a 2 hour fire rating. He was the guy that turned me on to the cheap steel gun cabinets. I don’t own any family heirlooms that can’t be replaced. The locksmith suggested going with the $200 cabinets and insuring any firearms inside them separately.
