Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

We modeled our bans after them and Trudy even wanted Arden to speak in Canada to pitch the bans here….seems to working well for them. Canada loves taking failed policies around the world and implementing them here for us to experience the failures….my elbows just can’t go any higher

Anything to sway the uninformed. Even with failing NS stats they wont ever revert to allow semiautos.

Yeah once somethings banned it’s never coming back. Gun lobby should have invested in buying up politicians on both sides of the aisle when it was still possible

Its been done before. Argentina and Poland are two places. There are some examples in Canada with Swiss Arms and even the AR15 moved from nonrestricted to restricted to nonrestricted back to restricted to prohibited. But yeah I agree the gun lobby could have done better and it will take more effort to unban.

It's not exactly easy to lobby when the government in charge literally tells you to fuck off every other sentence. Keep in mind the CCFR is the biggest pro gun lobby in all of Canada. They formed in Autumn of 2015. They have only existed under liberal governments.

Not trying to throw shade or blame the CCFR. A lot of the weakness was from before the CCFR existed which was part of the reason they formed. I agree that it's hard and all the groups are working hard now.

I agree. The NFA should have pushed for more when they had the chance. I think everyone’s focus was getting rid of the long gun registry and then after that a lot of fuel was lost.

Edit because I forgot to add some thoughts.

My biggest issue with the CCFR currently is I wish they would try and do more efforts to increase pal holder numbers in the country. For people on the fence about getting a PAL say you will pay for there CFSC course. That sort of thing. Otherwise they are pretty decent at lobbying.

This is why the non compliance is really important, because it keeps the problem alive for the government until a friendly one undo everything to take the easy way out of this situation.
