Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Haven’t heard much about the ASFCP in a while, anyone have any of-note news on this? Spring budget was promising in that they don’t seem to be committing anything to this portfolio on the go-forward. Hoping we get updates from the CCFR soon on the court case.

Nothing.

Nobody is likely getting paid outside of Quebec.

They slashed the compensation budget from over $200,000,000 to $64,000,000. Meanwhile, they’re laying off a huge number of people in government with Public Safety having the largest number of layoffs.

Safe to say they’re laying off most of the people who are working on this program, because the buyback program is responsible for most of the hiring in Public Safety to begin with.

The likelihood of anyone getting paid in the next two years is slim. The likelihood of anyone getting paid even half of what they’re owed is even slimmer.

Anyone who participated fucked up big time. All they did was give the government a list of guns they have and they’ll likely get ripped off and fucked over for their trouble.

Well that’s good in some ways. No news is good news - I was just worried we won’t hear any big updates until after parliament returns from summer break.

It feels too quiet, but that may be a good sign that things are sputtering and spiralling on their end with respect to starting up the implementation phase
