Rash of Recent Police Actions Against Firearms/drugs/gangs

Is anyone else pissed off by all the recent news of police stopping firearm smuggling, illegal firearms, drug busts, etc.?

Liberals have been soft on crime for their entire modern existence, catch and release, embarrassingly short sentences, and so many other policies we've complained about for decades. Well now all of a sudden they're making busts left, right, and center.

After decades of campaigning on community safety, they know their asses are finally on the line and they have to produce objective data that shows their absolute farce of a "buyback" made even the smallest dent in gun crime.

So now they're going to do all the things we've begged them for for decades, cracking down on weapon smuggling. Then they're going to attribute that reduction in crime, (that anyone with 2 braincells to rub together has known the solution was curbing illegal firearms) to taking guns away from us "dangerous and unhinged" firearms owners. Then theyre going to use that data as the basis to take the next bite out of private firearm ownership.

They're going to manufacture the data they need, by taking the steps we all know needed to be done, only to blatantly and fraudulently misrepresent that data to attack us even further....

It's just so tiresome, and predictable... and the liberal voters of this country can't be trusted to look at anything with even a modicum of critical thought.

I mean the government was already asked for data on how the gun buyback would affect crime by the Canadain Tax Payers Federation and public safety came back and said there isn’t any data that they have that shows it will. Also most police chiefs are saying that all these guns are illegal guns that are coming over the border and pointing to that as the issue and how easy it is for them to be smuggled over instead of just blaming gun owners. It seems like things are slowly starting to change and regular people are starting to realize legal guns aren’t the issue. It’ll take time but slowly I think more people are waking up.

The biggest issue is even when these statements are made by people who's opinion would matter, they are rarely made in a way that the people we need to see, see it.

We can definitely blame that on government control within our national media, and we can certainly be annoyed with that, but i dont think we'll ever have any meaningful way of changing that now. We need to just need to accept that our media is what it is, and find new ways to reach the people we're trying to reach.

Social media is a good platform, its just the most important eyes we need to reach, either exist in echo chambers, or dont exist online at all.

The key difference is that the government says we're the problem and the cops say illegal guns are the problem. The government is not making these busts, the provincial and municipal police agencies are.

Oh absolutely and they 100% deserve the credit for stepping up. Hopefully we see some changes in our justice department to make their work finally stick.

To my point I just dont see an avenue where the government doesn't use the cops work tightening the borders as a way to vilify us further. To highlight how we were actually the problem all along. You will be able to knock me over with a feather if the carney government comes out sometime next year and highlights the work of the rcmp/cbp in making our country safer. Rather than highlighting the "success of our firearm legislation in making canadians safer" or something to that effect.

Small note: CBSA, not CBP. CBP is a US agency (partner, but not the lead or the one running the press release for Canada). Would also note that press releases about firearms/drugs seizures at the border happen all the time, crediting RCMP/CBSA officers for their work and the tech investments. Annual reports are released with the information as well.

Sentencing is the courts, which is a separate branch from the Government. Whole system could definitely be set up better though!

Yeah there’s no way that the national media changes unless a government gets in that defunds platforms like the CBC which I sadly don’t think will happen. I work with a lot of boomers and they seemingly understand that these are illegal guns and that amount of money that is going to be wasted on this program is dumb and most of these people are liberal but that’s just my situation and what I’ve seen but I know it’s not the same everywhere.

I mean there are cracks that are starting to show within this thin majority like apparently there are quite a few mps that are upset with how carnival carney signed a deal with smith so maybe there’s a small chance people break away and we get an early election :) doubt it tho
