Some fun facts from the video:

  • These guns are not suitable for hunting

  • Grandfathered AKs are floating around

  • A massive gang shootout happens in Toronto involving unlicensed criminals using smuggled US firearms...so the obvious solution is to confiscate property from vetted, law-abiding PAL holders.

  • These guns are used in school shootings, banning them will prevent them from being used in school shootings because we say so

  • Legally owned handguns are "frequently diverted to illegal markets" despite police forces openly admitting that the vast majority of crime guns are black market imports smuggled across the border.

Seems like the goal is to frame highly regulated, background checked (daily) citizens as the main threat to public safety. Good on the host for asking questions and pushing the failure angle but too bad he wasn't ready with actual statistics and facts to call out the obvious BS.

I watched this and was absolutely unimpressed by the entire production. They had one buricrat giving obviously vague replies that frame things as 'getting any firearm out of the publics hands is a good thing but the real issues are elsewhere and I just can't come out and drive that point home for reasons of optics' and the other person an obviously well spoken absolute anti gun crusader full of notions that every person with a firearm is an atrocity waiting to happen.

There was no person from the firearms community. God forbid a 'NEWS' program would allow open dialog between the two opposing sides in this country. Can't do that because the anti gunners would be made to look the fools they tend to be. The guy asking questions didn't even have a remote clue as to how many firearms are wrapped up in this debacle and seemed to have no clue that most are unrestricted. He didn't really push on anything, just kind of threw it out there and forgot about it.

It's also funny and telling when she uses possible political violence as another reason to disarm people. Sounds kinda totalitarian to me.

On a side note, I really don't think we need governments trying to protect me from myself. That bs about using suicides as a reason to ban firearms. Governments need to protect me from you and you from me. It's so sad to constantly see the push for more power over the people all In an effort to 'protect them from themselves '. To be clear, suicide is tragic and we need mental health supports but it's no excuse for collective punishment.
