Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

I personally much prefer the Mk15. I believe the Carmel uses a polymer receiver which I'm not crazy about. The Carmel looks to have a lighter profile barrel as well. 

Im opting Mk15, don't really need both. With the limited number coming in I genuinely hope everyone can get one from a shop if they want one. I guarantee GP is going to be loaded with scalpers trying to resell Mk15s and Carmels for $3500+ within days of the orders coming in. I expect prices will continue to climb on them for a while after the initial batches come in as demand will be pretty high.

Same thing happened with the R9, but Stirling also jacked their prices up. When they first launched they were only like $1200 I think? But then guys were trying to sell them on GP for $2k+.

I'm all for capitalism, but it still bugs me sometimes that guys do this.

Polymer lowers agent a big issue really, do you like glocks? The X95 used polymer and it’s proven. So does the CZ Bren

I'm not saying it's an issue, I just personally don't love it. Im still stoked to have the Carmel available, but I personally prefer the metal receiver, not saying the polymer will fail, it's proven capable, I just don't like polymer receivers personally, purely out of preference.

Carmel looks to also use a pencil or light sporter barrel profile, I assume they were trying to keep the weight as low as possible. Still awesome to have it, I just much prefer the Mk15 by every metric.

The Carmel is alot more proven than the mk15, if reliability was what your looking for. The Carmel is ahead. Iwi has been in the game alot longer than brigate mfg. And alot more people have reviewed and have experience of using the Carmel just check YouTube you will see hundreds of reviews regarding the Carmel and like 3 on the mk15.

And all of the reviews I've seen of the Carmel were positive. I cannot say the same for the mk15

I'm not saying the Carmel is a bad rifle by any means, but for what I'm looking for, I personally prefer the Mk15. I'm not saying the Carmel is bad by any means, I just personally prefer the all metal construction (just for the feel of it, same reason I dont have a polymer TM22 Feather and have the aluminum model), and I slso think the heavier barrel profile of the Mk15 is better for a semi auto, if you're firing more than a few shots.

Not sure what the parts compatibility is like with ARs, I believe the Mk15 uses a mil spec trigger, and I assume the Carmel does. If the Carmel is AR barrel compatible, then my major gripe with it could be rectified pretty easily.

Not saying it's bad, just doesn't suite my personal preferences.

I personally haven't seen any bad reviews on the Mk15? All the ones I found were pretty positive, but I do believe you when you say you saw some bad ones. Even the Homesteader actually got some bad reviews from guys in the US, but as thousands of us Canadians have learned, they're awesome rifles.

Kinda cool, one of my family members in the US was looking at buying a Carmel recently down there, so it's cool to see it pop up here. He was pretty surprised when I sent him a photo saying "look what's coming into Canada!" 

By the way, did just do some research on the Mk15, it DOES use AR pattern barrels which is cool. I do worry with the business "buyback" coming, and some parts being eligible, that we may see a reduced market for AR parts soon. MRA still sells AR pattern barrels, but I believe all theirs have no gas port. It would be cool to be able to swap barrels on the Mk15 and Carmel.
