Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Do you think the announcement of the Alberta referendum and the sudden “care” that Carney has for Alberta could have them scrap the buyback or increase the amnesty period? Since the gun grab is one top causes for the separation among other issues I would like to hear your thoughts.

It’s definitely possible, Smith hasn’t dropped it once, she brings it up hand in hand every time they talk about the referendum. I mean Gary confirmed it in the recording, they’re sending us to jail because Quebec wants it, so why remain in Canada for the bidding of Quebec.

While libtards reversing guns laws is hard to believe, Alberta being cool with criminalization of their guns is also impossible to believe, someone is going to have to back down, it’s pointing to Ottawa!

Side note, I found it hilarious how people shit on Alberta for this and especially Eby, yet we’re all ignoring the simple fact that Quebec is as power as they due to their own referendum.

So fuck off with calling Albertans stupid for this, wanna be mad, be mad at Quebec for starting it

I long for the day Quebec gets kicked out of Canada and returned to France.

Same here. We will be better off without them.

Yep. Quebec started the perverse incentive here.

The Liberals*.

I doubt it. Gun control is a huge corner stone of the liberal party. If carney was gonna help us out he would’ve done so by now. Guys been PM for over a year and just keeps doubling down on this bullshit

I mean this would be the perfect out. "To get Alberta to calm down we had to unban these guns. It sucks but it was what needed to be done." It's the best way to put the 'blame' on someone else. Like yes Carney has had other outs but nothing quite as big as this.

Ah, dunno. Polls are showing a majority would vote to stay in Canada in a referendum. Alberta federally doesn’t vote liberal, Quebec does. And Quebec loves gun control. Can’t see the liberals pissing off their base for a province that doesn’t support them and most likely isn’t leaving the country

No I don’t think so. This program is going to go through unless the Supreme Court does something. They have doubled down repeatedly, admitting they were wrong is not going to happen. Alberta will get some concessions perhaps but nothing on the gun file I predict.

I doubt it but with it being what, 2 billion now, fuckall to show for it in the middle of a cost of living crisis and needing to have the courts shut down a (perfectly legal) separatist vote because it was getting too popular may signal something. Maybe. Probably not, especially since Carney may be losing his majority due to him bleeding MPs (despite no one criticising the liberals the way they criticize the cons) he will need to hold on to the poly lady.

Fuck it idk at this point all I want is for boomers to suffer and lose everything they felt worthy of pulling up the ladder for. And realistically whatever party lets this happen is the one im voting for.

He hasn't lost any MP's though as of yet. Yes he's pissed off MP's but the way I see it is that either a lot of MP's are going to leave at once or they will all grumble through it. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/liberal-mp-react-alberta-deal-carney-9.7208157 . This I think is the biggest thing Carney has to worry about. Not so much guns but environmentalism. If I was those 14 Mps with there biggest issues being environmentalism I would straight up get the fellow signers together and say "Look somethings got to change. Either you do or we are and that majority you got will be awfully short lived." Now where would they go you may ask? Well that's easy. The Green Party. Now you might be saying "Well that's political insanity to do that." Well is it? The NDP does not take floor crossers. The Bloc does but they got 22 members already. Sure getting 14 members would be big for them but they would largely be out numbered. Going to the Green party and they instantly gain a insane amount of power and the party leader owes them big. They would by doing that give the Green party official party status and give them a meaningful voice. Because if your biggest issue is environmentalism then the Green party is the place to go. Now if those 14 people had spine that’s what they would do.

I wanna see this happen only so that all those carney cucks, with a short lived majority, can suddenly turn around and gaslight us all as to how floor crossing is bad. Cus weeks ago they were all about you vote for the MP not the party, Pierre is chasing away his own MPs yada yada.

Genuinely a cold beer or two and reading those commenters now rabidly against floor crossing would be such a pleasant night.

It would be interesting to see those who simp for Carney react to losing the majority from floor crossing ngl.

Maybe but not after they collect and destroy a bunch of firearms with a big glowing photo op and video. They need to get that "win" under their belt to justify the expense, program is too far along to back out completely now. Might get scrapped after though with like a permanent no-use amnesty and/or a vague promise of a future second round of buyback which they will just never move on.

And make no mistake even if they have already decided as of today to give up after the current round of buyback is finished they won't tell anyone until the day the amnesty expires, they want the maximum amount of people to get scared and chop up their guns or turn them in without compensation to the cops. Every gun we lose and every person they intimidate into begging the police to take their guns and destroy in the last weeks before the amnesty ends will be a win to these people.

Your probably right on an 11th hour amnesty extension if they dont just drop the whole thing. Same for how they will inevitably spin it to win it (in thier tiny minds)

Though, Im not gonna lie, even though nobody is chopping up anything in my house but 6 and before long 7 years of this and sunk cost does drive a person to just not be enthused anymore. Im tryin to get motivated to play with the spencer or pistols again but its not easy fr.

Mostly unrelated, but for anyone curious, I found the redline on the main canada sub. Call out toronto types for how they talk about albertans in general and catch a seven day ban. Place is indeed the koolaid pool.

Honestly man, I get how it can be disappointing, but get out and shoot as much as you can. The remaining shops need the support (of us buying ammo), and I have thoroughly been enjoying my bolt guns lately too. It can be actually really fun going out at 100yd and trying to shoot the tiniest groups possible.

I also honestly find my bolt guns to be more fun sometimes, the manual action can be more engaging in some ways. I probably take my bolt guns out more than my semi autos these days.

But, I'm still stoked for the Mk15 I've got coming.

Point is, don't let the Liberals take the fun out of a great sport and hobby. Just find other ways to enjoy it. Trap and skeet are still a lot of fun too. Trying to keep a bit of optimism, and I still go try to poke tiny close holes in paper every weekend.
