Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

It brings me such great joy knowing poly’s nightmare came true, people will no doubt use the buyback money to buy a Makasi or Carmel, I love is so much, I’d give anything to see the hags at poly lose it 🥹

Won’t be buying the Makasi or Carmel but I will say it again and won’t stop saying it. I own more guns now then I would have if the OICs and handgun freeze never happened. If the OICs never happened I would have a Ruger Mini 14, a Type 81 one .22 lr rifle, one PCC and that’s it maybe a shotgun as well. Might not have even gotten handguns as I would have considered it ‘to much work’. Let’s just say the number of .22 lr firearms I currently have is the same number of total guns I would have give or take a shotgun. If the goal of Poly was to lower the number of guns in Canada they have failed in my case atleast.

Cannot agree more, before the bans I was at 9 guns and that’s it. Then Trudy and poly had to get in my business and now let’s just say I have more guns than most video game arsenals.

I have enough alleged paper weights and I put down for the Makasi, because to me it’s another middle finger to this unjust government!

The safe is overflowing but I just had to put down for the Makasi too. Absolutely agree; these bans did nothing but increase the total number of guns in the country.

I mean it's just a objective fact at this point. Let's say over the 3 OICS they have banned 2 million total guns. https://thegunblog.ca/reference/imports/ From 2020-2025. 359,236 guns in 2020 alone. 2021 424,808, 2022 496,195, 2023 387,437, 2024 329,658, 2025 322,356. Add those numbers up and you get 2,319,690 guns. Even if 40% of all those guns were banned that would still mean there are 1,391,814 new guns floating around in Canada still being used. Also it's not like all those banned guns have gone away. I would say not even 100,000 have been turned in or more simply put taken away from the overall number of guns in Canada. Oh I also forgot to mention the limited domestic supply made in that which even MRA must make atleast a little over 1,000 rifles a year and I know Savage Arms produces a decent number of .22 LR rifles in Canada. So yea objectively speaking there are more guns now in Canada then before the bans. If the goal was to reduce the number of guns it’s failed. If the goal was to discourage and reduce the number of pal holder’s it’s failed.
