Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

Excellent!

Would be incredible if other provinces started to follow suit. It also makes complete and total sense.

I maintain that a huge reason why the provinces are refusing en masse is because their respective Attorney Generals are likely aware of the potential legal crisis these bans could precipitate. Provincial courts are stretched to the max, and flooding the courts with all of these cases for possession of previously legal guns by people who are otherwise squeaky clean is not something they have any interest in doing.

Because of R. v. Jordan, the number of cases getting tossed would skyrocket because the courts would become overwhelmed with the sheer volume of cases, resulting in hearing timelines getting stretched so far out that they’d have to throw out actual criminal cases. According to the charter, everyone has the right to be tried in a reasonable amount of time.

Our “system” is not equipped to support mass incarcerations and it’s certainly not designed to support a massive influx of cases. Our budgets aren’t big enough to pay out the millions of billable hours it would result in.

This whole thing is a massive fuckup. The provinces would be doing Ottawa a favour by beating them in court.

It’s in every provinces best interest to get on board with this.

This is good news! More support, more legal resources against this unconstitutional gun grab! Love to see it, at this point the country is united against Ottawa, they seriously need to take the hint and drop this!
