Recurring Canadaguns Politics and Debate Thread

Please post all your Gun Politics or Ban-related ideas, questions, initiatives, comments, suggestions, news articles, and recommendations in this thread. This thread recurs every 14 days.

First and foremost, this is a Canadian Gun subreddit, so keep it at least decently related to both of those things.

This thread is not for general politics, there are plenty other subs that are meant for that. Off-topic threads may be removed, especially if they are leading to personal attacks, flame wars, etc.

To prevent the main sub being flooded with dozens of similar threads, text posts complaining about/asking about/chatting about gun politics will be sent here.

We understand that politics is a touchy subject, and at times things can get heated. A reminder of the subreddit rules, when commenting, where subreddit users are expected to abide.

Keep this Canadian gun politics related and polite. Off-topic stuff, flame wars, negative generalizations against groups, personal attacks and gate-keeping will be removed. Please flag any comments to bring to the attention of mods otherwise exercise your upvoting and downvoting ability.

We're not the US, and we aren't in the wild west. We know more guns = more violence. It's nothing more than a toxic individualist- maple MAGA american-style fantasy. Just call the police like a normal person, and leave your valuables on the front porch. We dont even need to get into the humanitarian aspect that what amounts to an extra-judicial murder would disproportionately impact BIPOC people and people experiencing poverty. Public health experts agree.

Why is this always landing on the “we are not the USA” argument. Yes buddy we got it. Canadian gun owners are some of the most law abiding citizens you’ll ever meet. The argument is that one should be able to defend yourself in your own home.

It’s such a dumb boomer argument. Like if the US tomorrow decrees that they’ll provide free healthcare to everyone, then we here in Canada will abolish publicly funded healthcare?!

Firstly, American politicians just love corporate exploitation of the people, they don't particularly care about what happens. But if they did, if they actually changed things, then yeah. You and I both know Canadians would suddenly be in favor of private healthcare out of spite.

Oh you are absolutely correct. Ford is already handing over Ontario Healthcare to AI.
