The guns have to be surrendered by Oct 31st, but there's a lot of admin work police will have to do after the fact. They'll need to process and catalog each gun submitted, probably file reports, etc. The government could have also just put a generic end date to the agreement.
To me this isn't a smoking gun of amnesty extension, though I do believe they'll have to do something given the uptake numbers.
it would be so amazing if they rule that any of these OICs that prohibited firearms that many people use for hunting are illegal. I mean, they are illegal by the definition of the OIC law, all they have to do is.... follow the law
Does not matter now though that they have a majority government. If in a long shot the Supreme Court sides with the CCFR and says it’s invalid, with the majority government they just pass it as a law the next day.
Yea it wouldn't be next day as that's not how that works. Even with a majority government you still have to go through something called the house of commons and senate. Do you know how long Bill C-71 took? You know when the Liberals had a majority government? https://www.parl.ca/legisinfo/en/bill/42-1/C-71 From house to senate it took March 20th 2018 to May 28th 2019. That's 14 months. With a majority government. 15 technically if you count that it took till royal assent till June 21st 2019. Legislation doesn't just happen in a day even with a majority government. That's what makes OICs horrifying. Atleast when it's in the house you can get a bit of a heads up at what's to come. When it's a OIC? You get zero warning and are at the whims of the government.
Oh yea that they can do. However even with a majority government this shit is not instant. The government likes to take there sweet time at getting things done.
