Buy recommendations picking an LPVO
Planning to pick up a LPVO eventually for the makasi when it finally gets here.
Right now looking at vortex, was thinking the vortex venom 1-6 (470$) but just saw a sale for the vortex strike eagle for 600$. Wondering if the extra 130$ makes a difference and if these are decent optics

The eyebox failed on my gen 1 StrikeEagle LPVO after a couple 1000 rounds of 9mm. Rear lens became jiggly, allowing dust to get behind it among other things. Vortex warranty was swift and hassle free... HOWEVER they did force me to cover shipping to them (thought that was disappointing considering it was clearly a manufacturing flaw). But they did upgrade me to the gen 2 model which appears to be better (clearer glass, more ergonomic reticle, nicer turrets) so ultimately i was satisfied with the experience. Its hard to trust budget Vortex optics now. My next LPVO will likely be a Primary Arms model. The glass is simply clearer and warranty shouldn't mean shit if the optic is properly designed to begin with.

Save up and buy something good. Throw an old red dot on until you can afford something you won’t want to replace 2 years later.

I have a 1-8 strike eagle that I used quite a bit... if I had to buy another one I would go with primary arms. The strike eagle wasnt the worst optic I've ever used but really, it was kinda to be desired. Could never get the focus right, the dot reticle is pretty big compared to an ACSS reticle, and a 1/2 moa click is really annoying when trying to zero at 200 meters

I have the 1-8 strike eagle. Good glass, good illumination, I have no reason to upgrade. I think it's worth the few extra bucks.

I went with primary arms slx with the Aurora reticle. I prefer this reticle and it zeros at 100 vs 50/200.

I have the Alex homebrew 1-4x and while I've only put a few hundred rounds on it I'm pretty impressed so far.

I've got the venom 1-6 and I'm very impressed with the clarity. To me, the 1x feels like a true 1x, both eyes open is not a problem at all. Illumination is an issue outside during the day, though.

I went through this when I purchased one for my Marlin 1895. Probably best to actually look at them in store. But essentially with LPVOs is the more money you spend, the better the glass clarity, the more features you get, you get a closer true 1x, and better red dot illumination. 1st focal plane vs 2nd focal also affects the price.
Funny enough, I had started with planing to get the strike eagle but ended spending more and going with the trijicon credo because I hate money(but not enough for a nightforce) and felt it looked a lot better. Overall look through them in person if you can and you’ll probably prefer the higher glass quality. It sucks to pay more but it makes a massive difference.
