No, only the legal "transfer" of handguns was frozen for non-exempt individuals. You can still use any handguns you legally purchased as you did before the "freeze". All it does is keep new people from entering the discipline, for the most part, in hopes that the sports will die out in a generation or so.
And this is why I think gun ownership should become a more bipartisan thing in Canada. I'm not saying everyone should nor needs to own a gun, but if the overall general populace was more educated on firearms in Canada, they could see through the smoke and mirrors like the opposition parties did with Bill C-21, where they forced Trudeau's liberals to reverse G4 and G46 amendments which if passed, would have resulted in a defacto semi-auto ban.
