Fix my gun Sks reassembly issue

Hey all

After many recommendations I got myself an SKS.

I just did a takedown and a cleaning thanks to some videos, but I’m having trouble putting it back together, namely when snapping in the trigger group.

I seem to have the mag assembled and trigger aligned well but I’m unable to snap it in place no matter how hard I push. Any help would be appreciated!

EDIT: Thanks everyone, indeed I just HIT IT EVEN HARDER!! It’s all clean and put back together

Good for me to read after I just broke down my first SKS for the cosmoline clean 😂 I had to beat the ever loving fuck out of that retainer pin in the firing pin assembly.

Can I just skip this whole process of taking it down by swishing it around in a big barrel of oil and then drying it off? I mean those loose tolerances will allow a total flush of every component without ever needing to take anything apart right /S

What is this, SKS school? All I'll say is my 3lb dead blow might as well be zip tied to my SKS with how often they elope. She runs just fine.

Yah man because I think you need some schooling. Good luck beating your sks with a 3 Lbs hammer What does elope mean ? What i dont like is peaple that haven't a clue. Telling someone about how they should take care of their firearms that could lead them to a a problematic situation or a dangerous fire arm. So you telling peaple that they just need to spray it with G96 is not good advice The bolt and firing pin absolutely needs to be cleaned with hot water and simple green Dried then use G96 The whole firearms gas system should be treated this way

The SKS is not a Swiss watch. It is over-gassed as fuck from the factory, made from billet steel with obvious tool marks, and can handle a lot more abuse than I think you realize. They aren't exactly precise pieces of engineering. Sometimes, you have to beat them a bit to get things to fit back after full disassembly. I don't know what else to tell you.

Actually you cant tell me anything about these rifles I think your struggling to come up with things to try to show me you might possibly know maybe something I have shot these rifle for years decades Actually I know what they need to be cleaned to be able to put away and be able to shot again Good luck with yours and your shit method of just spray it with G96 and put it away Stuck gas piston in the gas tube G96 IS GREAT But you have to do your part also Im done

Nah I’ve had 3. You think troops were ripping their SKS apart after firing? They were issued with oil cans and cleaning rods for a reason.

With corrosive ammo you are worried about the bore and the gas piston. No need to disassemble for that.

Hell no. Spray it with G96, wipe off the excess and shoot it. These SKS are made from low quality metal and have low quality finish (like bbq paint). They need the grease in them. Taking it apart is a pointless exercise that results in the OP’s issue

You really should clean the bolt on a new SKS. The firing pin needs to be free floating or there is a chance of a slam fire.

You've never disassembled a SKS for cleaning? They're not that hard to put together once you've done it once.

I certainly have, you also don’t need to take the trigger guard off to clean the firing pin.

Ok the bbq paint is because they have been refurbished. They came blued from the factory And if they where built with low quality metal that would mean that you would have to take even better care or it or it will rust to the piont being useless (not a battle rifle ) Earlier ones did not have chrome lined barrels and they need even more care. Then later they added the chrome lined barrels to help with corrosive ammo All did not come with bbq paint Tell me you nothing about these rifles by just your statement above

Do you soak your stock with water when you clean yours. How do you get the corrosive salts out These are great fun rifles but they do require a food amout of cleaning I personally disassemble all the metal components from the wood stock Fill the sink with hot water and simple green And clean everything. Gas tube and piston. Bolt and firing pin, barred action magazine

Use a clamp on top of reciever and bottom of trigger guard. Chinese ones seem a lot harder to close, I can close Russians by hand but not Chinese ones

Push harder - unused SKS can take a lot of force to snap back into place.

Holy fuck is there alot of bad advice in this thread I have never had to beat on an sks to get it back together Bolt position does not matter Safety on squeeze the action and the trigger group together Or put the action on a non flexible surface and push on the trigger group

It depends on how new your SKS is, French Ticklers can have a very tight trigger group release spring that can take a lot of force to release and snap back together.

Make sure the action is on something hard carpet is not Safety" on " and squeeze the two parts together I have never had to beat on an sks to get the trigger group to latch down

I had the same problem so I beat it with a massive hammer. I learned that I could legit stand on it and JUMP on my SKS, AND IT STILL WOULDN'T CLICK ??? I literally need to smack it Soo hard to make it click.

Both on mine require a lot more force than you’d expect to get the trigger group back in. Took me a couple hours the first time I reassembled because I through something was wrong.

Make sure you have it set correctly (pin on the mag end is in place) and then give it a good hit with a mallet.

Make sure you have the parts set correctly (a trick on its own) and use rubber mallet on the trigger guard, hard.

Make sure the trigger group engage the magazine dowel pin properly. The with a rubber mallet mallet hit the trigger guard it will go over the release springy thing.

Take the trigger group and mag out and re adjust them try to slot the mag in better then slam the fuck out of the trigger group and itll go in. Remember how hard it was to push the trigger group release pin, u gotta slam the fuck out of it Ivan

Surprised I haven't seen this posted yet.

Press trigger group into receiver with the safety engaged, then disengage the safety and it pushes the TG latch into place. 

Or beat the fuck out of it as others have suggested.

I did that exact same thing when I first got my sks like years ago. Make sure the box mag is seated in all the way before you put the trigger group back in, hold the trigger group down with your non dominant hand as hard as you can and use your other hand to smack it back in with a rubber mallet

it took me slamming the trigger guard with an 8 lb dumbbell to seat my trigger pack back in place. i'm pretty sure you just gotta beat the living daylights out of it

Is the bolt and that stuff still in? Take it out and try again. i encountered another person with this same issue and that was their problem
