Milsurps / Prohib SKS D value

Post image

Someone asked recently on the value of an SKS D. This was one I saw sell back in February. Never did I think an SKS D would be worth 3500 after tax, but here we are I guess.

Mind blowing to anyone who had their license 10+ years ago.

You could import one with irunguns for a third of the price

Are they legit cuz their website seems sketchy

Very legit. Tons of references here. We use them all the time. Be ready for the import fees though.

Very legit and a gem of a company to work with. Super friendly and responsive

Could have gotten a rfb or a benelli or a nvg monical gen 2 for that 6 years ago.

More like 2 years ago

Prices been jumping fast in a short time than. Wish I didn't wait.

u/DougMacRay617 Apr 29 '26

I bought a sig mcx for 2400 after tax pre 2020

8

u/16gaugeguy16 Apr 29 '26

Pretty crazy to think. We can play this game all day sadly. Pre 2020 you could buy a VZ58, Type 97, AND a Mini 14 all at once for less than this SKS sold for

Gonna nope right outta here

Being a broke college student and watching the price continue to rise more and more out of reach is painful.

6

u/16gaugeguy16 Apr 29 '26

That's valid. It is sad seeing people be priced out of the hobby in so many ways

4

u/Riversruinsandwoods Apr 29 '26

Couple more weeks and I’ll hopefully be employed 😂 for now I’m happy with my 12 gauge. Does everything I realistically need it to do.

I member back when the D was $450 and thinking it was spensive.

6

u/Fareacher Apr 30 '26

I used to know a guy who bought one for $150 .

He sold it before 2015 however.

Source: I'm that guy.

Yup think I paid 400 for mine

u/DougMacRay617 Apr 29 '26

And people on here cry about the makasi being 2500

9

u/16gaugeguy16 Apr 29 '26

I'm people, it's me. But I get the appeal of the Makasi still

2

u/Status_Ticket5044 Apr 30 '26

I'm cool with $2500 for the Makasi if it proves to be reliable and legal in a year or so.

Lots of Canadian firearms history to be made between then and now.

4

u/16gaugeguy16 Apr 30 '26

It just makes me sad that we had more affordable options that were quality just a few years ago. But I'm okay with spending $2500 on something like that as long as it's reliable and durable.

u/Status_Ticket5044 Apr 30 '26

This scary right-out-of-the-box 5.56NATO eater is going to be a litmus test for Gary in the face of the SCoC reversing a lot of their retroactive progress through OICs.

The Makasi MK-15 Gen 2 or 3 may prove to be a better investment or I'd like to hear reliable and durable noises about Gen 1 first.

Roll them bones.

The 5 rnd mags are fine but are a bit awkward to rock and lock in due to their short length.

Full length mags are much easier but are often pinned too tight which prevents them from seating properly with the bolt closed.

I haven’t seen an issue with actual feeding rounds though fwiw.

Frustrating! I’ve tried so many different ones it’s ridiculous.

Its crazy what people are paying for firearms at auctions i've been watching them for about a year now off and on.

4

u/16gaugeguy16 Apr 29 '26

Auctions are great for the people that understand how to do the math on a buyers premium and tax. Not so much for anyone else.

3

u/_MlCE_ Apr 29 '26

lol

I can occasionally see them at web stores for $1000 +/- a few hundred - but not $2000.

Auctions like this makes me wonder if the house has people bumping up the price cause even the regular ghoul buyers I fight with arent this stupid.

4

u/-rifle-is-fine- Apr 29 '26

There is an auction site I watch and sometimes things go for stupid amounts, even ammo for more than the shelf sticker price. When you look at bid histories though, it is usually two users fighting with each other to "win".

If you want to make bank on your stuff, auction to sports orientated people who focus completely on winning and don't have it in them to say no.

If they get to $3k or over, f it, I'm selling mine. If people are that desperate to have one...

3

u/tugspeedman514 Apr 30 '26

Got a free one when i purchased 2k rounds of 7.62x39 for 299$, cabelas 2015.

The Sks-d??? Unreal deal even for 2015

5

u/450k_crackparty Apr 29 '26

It's not worth 3500, that's just what they're asking. There's 3 on gunpost right now for 2000 to 2250. One on cgn for 2150, one just sold for 1450.

3

u/16gaugeguy16 Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26

It's an auction, it's exactly what it's worth to someone as it sold for that price.

Edit: I don't think people should pay that much for one, but it's crazy to me that some people are in fact willing to pay these high prices

4

u/450k_crackparty Apr 29 '26

oops didn't see that it was sold. Yep I guess someone's dumb. In an any case, I would say that's an outlier. General prices are in the 2k region.

2

u/poltrojan Apr 29 '26

That's money laundering.. SKS-D has not risen to that value.

1

u/16gaugeguy16 Apr 29 '26

I have seen multiple sell for just above 3k now. I'm in as much shock as everyone else, but the reality is that some people are willing to pay ridiculous prices. Items are worth what people will pay for them whether we like it or not.

Which option house is this?. I normally buy my surplus rifles from McSherry's.
