Shooting TIL that Colt Canada supplies entire countries with black rifles

Denmark, Netherlands, UK, Norway, Botswana ... all these militaries buy Canadian black rifles and Canadian Elcan optics.

Yet we Canadian citizens can't, ugh. The irony! ​

I'd argue this is a part of, if not a major reason a lot of people give Colt shit in recent years (pre buyback drama)

Their main focus is government contracts, not civilians.

Civilian market however is much more lucrative. Yes they have large bulk order from the defense contracts but civilian firearms are usually more expensive and cheaper to make. Consumers pay premium for mil specs they probably never needed.

The average price of M4 is only 800 some USD for military but in civilian markets, I’m sure many suckers in this sub will pay 3000 Canadian pesos for a real M4.

I disagree, not necessarily more lucrative, especially when you consider all of the intermediaries and other requirements like paperwork. Also, the military contractor gets to make a premium on accessories and spare parts for the military contracts. That shitty Triad on the C7 costed the CAF about $200… ‘cause CAF didn’t want a forehand with integrated picatinny rails. Pretty sure CC sold that shitty cocking handle for a sweet profit too

CC released civilian version of the C7/C8 for less than 2K a few years ago.

Contracts also provide consistent dependable revenue which is easier to strategically plan around compared to civilian sales.

lol I think you seriously overestimate the size of the Canadian market. Or really any civilian market in the world. There is a reason KAC, HK, LMT, etc. ignore the civilian market when they win big contracts.
